My son-In -laws mother is a character!

His mother is very cold towards him. She sent him to her friend's house many miles away for the entire summer. Whenever he asks how his Dad is doing she just says "Sadly he is still alive !"She is a real trip, while on the other hand, her husband was a great guy to everyone.
Too bad someone doesn’t say back to her “That’s what we say about you.”

You should see what I would love to say to her. Most of it is x-rated. When her mother was alive the mother knew I had a fear of cats, so she would keep the cat upstairs, and then my SIL's mother would make him sit near me. My SIL's dad was a wonderful man. He would be grilling out back and playing music, and when he heard a song he knew I liked he would call me outside to hear it.

Hubby and I just got home from our granddaughter's dance recital. She was fantastic. I had on a face mask to be safe even though they said it wasn't necessary. Lucky me I got to sit next to my SIL's mother. When she saw me with the mask she started laughing. She then said I bet you believe that there is really a covid disease. I said yes, don't you ? She laughed again. I asked her if she had gotten the shots. She said No but I bought a card that said I got the shots. That reminded me of when she got fired when she worked for a Doctor and he found out she was writing Prescriptions under his name and selling them to friends. She is really a character.

Good grief isn't that a crime? Didn't the doctor report her to legal authorities?

And this goes way beyond being a "character!" (To me a character is someone who is a little odd, quirky, unusual, probably kind of lovable. I think the word is usually used affectionately. I certainly wouldn't use it to describe this mother-in-law!)

There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living

The day that my daughter got married her future MIL sent her daughter to our house before the wedding to make sure my daughter didn't look Gawdy.
As a beautiful Italian mother with an daughter who looks like an angel, I think it would have been fair to send someone over to check that the mother of the groom didn't look too frumpy..

SIL's mother called me last night to tell me her bottom lip is swollen and she is worried because we sat next to one another she caught my Bells Palsy from me, I said I didn't think you could spread Bells Palsy and I also said I had a mask on. Of course, she doesn't believe me. I really believe she is crazy. Here is a picture of her son and my daughter on their 10th wedding, anniversary.

What does looking gaudy mean? I have heard people say that, but always just thought it meant dressed very poorly.

gaudy means to dress in a flashy and usually ugly manner...

I love my SIL but I wish he could see the faults his mother has especially against my daughter and his father.
well his mother is his beloved mother... despite her faults. He may be aware of them but doesn't want to acknowledge them..

You can imagine how it would feel if you learned that your s-i-l's family were saying the same about your daughter.. and how she should see the faults in her mother.. it's not going to happen ..

Sassy, you could have told her that she wouldn’t have caught it if she had been wearing a mask. JK. I know it’s not contagious but sometimes a nasty reply is required (not that I can ever think of one until later).

Being Italian, or of Italian descent have you thought of "Making her an offer she couldn't refuse", (or does that only happen in the movies?)? :)
