Nails

I don't like claws on women. There was a secretary with 4 inch nails, I could never figure how she typed without making errors. Today, it's also fashionable for guys to have blue nails- not a fan of this. Nails must be super important to women, because there isn't a strip mall without a nail shop.
As for me, there's nothing like chewing on your nails-great.

In spite of countless “remedies” my nails continue to break and split easily. I’ve tried diet changes, supplements, a variety of care routines and nail products all to no avail.

Vecause of that, I keep them short, and shaped to match the curve of my fingertips. I will occasionally apply polish, clear or a very light pink or coral frosted or shimmery shade. I don’t care for dark colors on short fingernails.

I have very occasionally had gel nails. They look pretty but I don’t care for the maintenance and when they’re removed I spend about two months growing out the damage that’s resulted before my nails are back to normal.

Actually, mine don't grow much. I only need to file occasionally, using a glass file. If they get a bit longer they begin to break so I file down as needed.
So how do people grow them so long anyway?

Mine grow very fast but not in a nice shape. I don’t like the feel of them anymore so have to trim them often.

Nothing worse than seeing people with chipped polish. Defeats the purpose of wearing it.

Imo, the really long ones look like claws. My husband who rarely notices anything even comments on them.

How do men here feel about them.

mine grow straight across.. regardless of how I file them.. which is why I go to the nail salon. They file and cut them into shape then do a better paint job than me

I have had the gel nails a couple of times but found I did not care to spend or the up keep. My nails will grow long if I chose. I was a nail bitter as a kid and gave it up because my future FIL fussed at me about it.

I rarely paint my nails. I prefer just to use a buffer which makes them shiney in appearance and keeps them healthy. I file them in to a square shape which prevents breakage. My poor dogs would be heartbroken if I kept them short, they love a good scratching.

I have several colours of OPI nail polish.. and often I'll take those to the salon for the nail technician to use instead of their own brands..

I don't like artificial nails. They not only look artificial, they're toxic. Not to mention that your natural nails become extremely damaged. Once you have them, you're locked into expensive upkeep. Some women think they're essential and will spend whatever it takes to maintain them. They're often considered a status symbol. I don't care if other women wear them, that's their choice, but they're not for me. I prefer natural looking nails and wear mine reasonably long and painted in a neutral color that goes with everything.

How someone does anything with incredibly long claw-like nails is... carefully, or they have someone do it for them because they're handicapped.
Like yourself, I hate artificial nails for the very reasons you started. Nails need air or they become soft and sometimes infected.
I’ve only had a few manicures for weddings and had a couple of artificial nails done for weddings. I’d keep them on until the wedding was over and immediately clip them off.

They really do ruin your natural nails and cost a fortune. Plus sitting their having someone do my nails is uncomfortable.

I’ve enjoyed having natural long nails for decades but now I find them annoying so cut them down regularly. My thumb nails are so hard to cut. They’re extra strong.

They are considered a status symbol but who wants to give off the impression that you are beyond rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty. Gardening with long nails is gross. All the dirt that gets stuff under them is a PITA.

Like Rose! I trim , file , push down the cuticle and maybe polish with natural buffing stuff that puts a nice natural shine on them. Plus I play instruments and the nails get in the way.

The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest had the most incredibly long nails. What is this fashion these days for incredibly long claw-like nails? How does the person go to the toilet, wash hair or indeed do anything?

I've often marvelled at the money so many women spend on nails. I've always done my own, I do tidy cuticles and file my nails to a reasonable length. I like Avon polishes. I used to bite them in my youth but conquered the habit. I find pale neutral nail polish best because darker colours do look awful when chipped.
I agree. Those claw like nails and false eyelashes like a wooly worm look ghetto to me.

And shaving off and painted back on eyebrows, and the blown-up lips.....do fake people really think they impress?
I also think it is just nuts, the things some people do that think it will make them more attractive. So many are left looking like a wreck when they were attractive in the first place. This is what happens when people are driven by the media about what is attractive.

Yes, there are some that truly need the help, those born with a deformity or those who have been in an accident. I believe, if they desire to get a condition corrected should go forward with treatment.
