My Nan , made a lovely lamb stew , with cheesy Dumplings !!

Sausage, Cabbage and Mash ........when she cooked sausages, the fat that oozed from them (dripping), she poured over the rest of the dinner , which was so tasty !!

My mum couldnt cook...everything came out of a tin or a packet !!

My mother was an excellent cook, as was my father's mother. Both could pull together meals on the fly based on what they had on hand.

I particularly miss my mom's Norwegian rice pudding (risgrot) and some of my GM's Christmas cookies.

Funny story. My Gram's chicken and dumplings were an event when I was a kid.

After I got married, my wife decided she was going to learn how to make them.

Well, the first pot ended with one large goopy dumpling bubbling on the top and my wife, with tears in her eyes, saying "I did something wrong."

But, after many, many, batches of dumplings ending up in various sizes, shapes and consistencies, she hit on it about 25 years ago.

I am now happy to say my wife's chicken and dumplings are an event.

There’s a lady on YouTube who makes old-fashioned recipes every Sunday. They’re simple home style family recipes mostly from her grandma. Her name is ‘senior citizen Sue’. I recommend her channel.

Our grandmother wasn't the grandma type, and she lived far away. (And she wasn't German.) However, I remember a couple of times that she made pfeffernüsse cookies. Wunderbar!

My mom made "bird's nest" too. The nest was ground beef which was then filled with diced carrots, potatoes and onions and baked.

Mom would even cook me up some Homemade Kimchi, even though she hated the resulting smell.
I ate it by the jar full.

Can only eat it now when the wife is out of the house and the air purifier is on high!
