Name something ,That your Mother or Grandma cooked, that was your Favourite !!

My grandmother made an incredible peach cobbler, made with real biscuits, that I can still taste. My mother wasn't much of a cook, be she made great fried okra and chicken livers. No wonder I was a fat kid.

Homemade French crullers that my mother learned to make from a Creole cook. The first time I took a bite of a commercial donut, I almost choked and spit it out! And no, Krispy Kremes don't cut it with me, sorry! I know folks love 'em, but it's just not the same.
I had Krispy Kremes twice. Both times I was at a KK bakery so they were fresh outta the grease. No idea what all the fuss is about. By my reckoning, they're mediocre doughnuts.

I can say my mother made red cabbage that was very good. Also she made this cake out of her German cookbook that was kind of dry, but really good. I refered to it as the dry cake.

Was it honey cake? Brownish and subtly spiced. I used to buy that; it was cheap and I loved it. It was kind of dry though, so I put butter on it.

Soups! My mother made very delicious borscht, cabbage and barley soups. I still love soup and have it at least twice a week. Excellent choice for lunch.

My mother's "recipe" for cooking cabbage was so simple and easy, yet it's the best cabbage I've ever had.
Although my mother was known for her coconut cakes, I absolutely loved her yellow cake with chocolate icing...made from scratch, of course.
I also loved her orange cake, also made from scratch. She grated the orange rinds and all.

My grandmother made "Blanquette de veau" (that is veal stew with cream sauce) and "mousse au chocolat" (chocolate mousse). She let me lick the spoons after she poured the mousses into small individual dishes! She was an excellent cook.
My husband's grandmother was Canadian (originally her family came from Germany). She was the best pastry chef. Her pastry was based on her German roots. She would spoil us at Christmas time!
My mother could not cook but she always found all kind of new recipes that "we had to try". It always ended into disaster. I was a very skinny kid!
My mother-in-law was not any better. I just had to be polite and ate a little bit!

Both my maternal grandmother and my Mama were both fantastic old fashioned southern cooks and, I loved everything they cooked. My favorites were their chicken & dumplings and made from scratch biscuits. I'm talking melt in your mouth southern food! Not only did they always get the correct ingredients in their food, but they also added lots of LOVE which made everything taste great!!
