Never visit a place again!

Grandfather Mountain, TN. Beautiful scenery (Smoky Mountains), but restaurants and roadside attractions have scary people there. Would not go there after sunset. Husband always said we would go back again and pack a big picnic basket to go.

There were 3 nurses at the hospital that were planning to go to Hawaii. Well, I wanted to go too. So, I went. I enjoyed Oahu.

My retired Navy son still lives there.
When did you go? What sights did you see?

Jamaica. I don’t have many cruises under my belt but every port that we stopped was positive. Jamaica was uncomfortable. Too many armed guards everywhere. A few years later my SS booked his honeymoon there. Fabulous on paper, not in reality. They were basically told to stay in the compound.

My cruise nightmare was Belize ...
Don't know what I expected to find there, but what we saw was anything but pleasant. .. a very dirty, poor country.

But in the shopping and restaurant area, the air was OK.

Rogue River, Oregon. We went on a 6-hour boat trip that promised we'd see wildlife. The only wildlife we saw was a lot of fish. The guy running the "cruise" was a would-be comedian who kept rattling off the corniest jokes I have ever heard. The trip included lunch at a Native American reservation, which was pretty awful as well. It was an ordeal, and I was so glad when it was over. Expensive, too. A real ripoff.

The one place I've been that was absolutely miserable is Phoenix, AZ. Hot, congested, and ugly.
I was there during summer; pretty sure it was July, around 1990. I was there for a little over a week to play in a championship baseball tournament. I assume the place cools off some in the fall and winter, but it's congested and ugly year round.

I hear you! We live about 100 miles North of Branson, and we went down there, Once, several years ago. The traffic was ridiculous, and the crowds were overwhelming. Outside of a couple of museums, we didn't find anything worth re-visiting. There's some good shows for Country and Western fans, and some good amusement park areas for families with kids, but that's about it.

Oh, I beg to differ. Branson was the nearest Dunkin Donuts for me. (90 miles).

Sorry, can't name a place where I would never go back. I've been to China, India, USSR, Europe 8 times, South America, Central America, Mexico, the good ole' USA, the Yukon. Would love to go back to China or India but I'm 75 so these days I enjoy the memories. Advice is "do it when your young" and can do it and have fun. Advice about retiring and traveling the world is mostly bad advice for most people.

I won't go into detail, but thankfully a couple of sailors rescued us from being kidnapped by a most unsavory gang of hoods that ever existed. Breathed a sigh of relief after we crossed the border back into the U.S.

US Navy sailors love to rescue damsels in distress. Of course the subsequent rescue of the damsels from the sailors is a topic for another thread.

You’re absolutely correct. Health and Covid have slowed us right down.

What league were you playing in?

I've only been to Phoenix once. It was in March and already getting hot during the day. I couldn't imagine being there in the summer and doing something active, but maybe you get used to the heat after a while. I lived in Houston for eight years and it was hot and humid. You'd be covered with sweat after being outside for just a few minutes. We spent most of our non-working time just drinking beer... and some of our working time. That was the late-'70s and early '80s when it was different down there. They're not so lenient on people drinking in excess.
