New allegations against Joe Paterno & Penn State saying Paterno and another assistant coach might have been aware of Sandusky molesting young boys on/in Penn State facilities as early as 1976. Allegations come from a former insurance company of Penn State. Probably involves prior investigations and/or payouts to victims. Court documents are currently sealed so other than a mention in a court document details are vague at this time.

It's always hard to take down a God, and that's exactly what Paterno was in these parts for a LOT of people. They live and breathe Penn State Blue here.

I noticed this on a ticker going across the screen on CNN this AM. People are often perceived as something they are not. The mighty have the power and they are not always good people.

Rather sickening.

My guess if true those victims/lawsuits were considered nuisance suits and not given second thought after a payout or investigation. On one hand I believe it because one just doesn't turn child predator in midlife. And back then to even talk about the subject was taboo or awkward. I don't want to make a leap but if Paterno was aware one must wonder what else he overlooked, ignored or aided and abetted in. On the other without more detail or context one does have to question the allegation.

Now they're saying the first known abuse allegation is from 1971. Sandusky would've been an assistant coach at Penn State for two years after being hired in 1969.

I get that many companies and insurance companies pay people to go away but there are just too many allegations of the same thing not to doubt several of them. Then when you see stories of the some of the initiation rituals of some of these football teams one must wonder if that's why many of the witnesses never came forward or even accepted & tolerated it. At this point I beginning to think there were more participants in this behavior than Sandusky. Also it's even more motivation to make an investigating DA disappear who probably had access to this information.

Unsealed Court documents now confirm abuse allegations as early as 1976. Includes unusually high and quick insurance payoutS which is a sign they wanted the matter to go away.

So over half of Joe Paterno's career and football program achievements were basically predicated on covering up and/or enabling a child molester. Penn State University itself benefited from the football program successes and cover up. Then when the NCAA cracks down on the program they cry foul yet the entire program was based on a cover up and enabling on going abuse.

I witnessed, at a very early age, how people, in authority, will push these things under the carpet for what they consider the greater good of their bottom line, so none of this surprises me in the least.

Exactly, This isn't just about the coach Joe Paterno. He needed help to keep Sandusky on staff until the mid 1990s 2 decades later. The board or trustees had to know about these insurance payouts or that the payouts affect their costs. Too many alumni, jobs, money and power at stake in a big college. The alumni are creepy because not only are they those that live life vicariously through their college & connections they simply can't handle any negativity associated with them in anyway. This was a big institutional cover up.

I feel if this is true Penn State should be able to recoup damages paid out to the victims from Joe Paterno's estate.

Doesn't a claim on an estate have to be made before it's dispersed. It's worth a shot.

I'm wondering if there's some kind of perjury charges that can brought on others who denied everything. If any company has paid millions in claims for years the higher ups know about it. Also wondering since Sandusky was allowed on campus after leaving if campus and team staff didn't know anything.

You are correct, I know it would be fruitless. Tis a shame knowing the guilt which was his(Paterno) for his failure to intervene , dismiss , and otherwise stop these horrible crimes occurring within his program.

Um, the priests and all that? It's been going on forever. Sadly only in the last few decades have victims been able to come forward. Back in the day they would have been paid off or whisked under the carpet.

My reply was not to imply Penn State was the only place or even the first place these abuses were occurring ,my dear. Just that Joe Paterno was in a position of power and could ,at the very least informed the police of what he had learned. To have knowledge of a crime and doing nothing to prevent the crime, which was in his power, makes him as guilty as Sandusky.
