Hello everyone. Thought I'd give the forum a try as I am bored beyond tears after a horrendous winter which was quite unusual for Long Island. Bringing in the garbage can, checking my mail, and making sure my 88 year old neighbors are still alive is about the extent of my social calendar until golf season. This time of the year I spend a lot of time on the Golf Course, but due to a slight golf injury at the end of last season I have not played yet but plan on my first round of the season this week.

I am a really good golfer, a really good talker, and to stay trim, a really good walker! (LOL) That being said, sadly, I recently lost my companion of 20 years, and my dog "Harry" of 17 years. Ny 3 sons and 4 grand-children live in SC, TX, & CO, so I am all alone when not playing golf, and it is starting to really get to me! I know there are people out there but it is so difficult to make new friends as a senior. I can't understand why because I was always so extroverted, happy, fun loving, and "witty" when I was younger. Now, I seem to be afraid of my own shadow!

I am very fit and trim, a very good dresser, a great dancer and yet I do not have a clue as to how to find that 65-70 year old woman who everyone has been telling me has been searching for me for 6 months! Hah, Ha.... I'll peruse the forum for a while and try to learn what others do in a like situation. If I can't find a companion, I'd at least like to have a couple of "Pen Pals" as it were!

Hi Rony, welcome! Sorry to hear you lost your partner and your pup. This isn't a dating site, but you can make some good friends here to chat with on the forum. :)

Thanks for the welcomes. I know this is not a dating site, I was being facetious about the 65 year old woman. (LOL) I'm just trying to face up to being alone at this stage of my life. Certainly others learn how to cope, and I will also. Thanks again.

Hi Rony, from the western end of Tenn.
My hubby and I retired from Maine to Tenn. 2 yrs. ago and we still have many friends and family in Maine and have seen the severity of the terrible winters the East coast had last year.. Sounds like your just coming out of your long winter blues.. Been there , done that.. lol...I'm sure you will find many golfers here too and many other nice folks chat with..

Hah, Ha.....Thank you tinytn. So you know NE Corridor winters! I almost think that Long Island got it worse this year then Maine. I have lots of friends in Maine and we compared notes all winter. Long Island was like Siberia!!! :sentimental:

Welcome to the forum Rony
You were not bereaved when you were young, extroverted, fun-loving and witty. It is tough to lose a long-term partner and you must give yourself time grieve and to adjust. This is a good place to start.

Thank you for the kind words. I love Australians!! I served in the Army with Aussies (In Germany), play golf with Aussies (Such good players), and Americans consider Aussies as simply cousins, just the same as UK, CA, NZ. My childhood best friend visited Australia after we graduated college and STAYED! He won the award for traveling the longest distance for our 50th year High School reunion in 2009. Not to mention that I would give a "King's Ransom" to spend an evening with Essie Davis, "Miss Fisher!" (LOL) God, how I love that show!

Welcome from another Sydneysider, Rony.

Fancy you knowing about our Miss Fisher.
She is rather unique, isn't she?

Yes, in the USA these wonderful shows from the UK and AUS come to us on Public Television which has become the Absolute Best High Quality television available to any cable subscriber in our entire country! We have Masterpiece Theater where we can watch Poirot, Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, Scott & Bailey, Downton Abbey, etc. Via enhanced communication technology, Americans over the last 25 years have discovered, that while we are very fortunate to live in the USA for many reasons, many other countries around the world have much to offer as well! There is a tremendous amount of talent around our planet, and that is one very good reason why "War" is so despicable!
