New Year’s Eve

For about thirty years, from twenty-two, on, my bands played every New Year's Eve. Once I stopped playing, I enjoyed hanging out at home, cooking up a great dinner, and then black-eyed peas and cornbread, for midnight, with my gf. Now, we go dancing, some years, out to a restaurant, others, and then home to watch celebrations from other cities, on TV.

Happy New Year, y'all. Here's to great 2019!

Whether I am home alone with the tv or busy with company I always try to stay up and toast in the new year. Making peace with my life as I leave the old year to make room for the hope I feel in welcoming the new year.

"We are approaching a brand new year...
it's natures way to end things so new beginnings can sprout up in hidden places...
look closely, they are buried underneath the discarded things in our lives...
these new beginnings are tender so protect them with your heart
and they will blossom into your dreams"

Happy New Year Everyone!

It's just a silly game with the idea being that if the new year starts out inexpensively the pattern will continue throughout the year.

LOL, my father used to have a similar idea, he always said never start anything at the end (of the day, the week, the year) or it will never get done or finished.

Its my birthday and I will be staying home probably cooking my black eyed peas for the next day. Could not pay me to be on the roads that night here in Houston. We will have lunch somewhere to celebrate my birthday and then home to get ready for the next days special food.

Happy Birthday from the Sonoran Desert! New Year's Eve is also my Significant Other's birthday. We had hoped to go out somewhere, but her knee is in really bad shape, so we are staying in.

Speaking of senior moments (which we weren't, here, but were in another thread) I read this...twice as a matter of fact... as "Here's to all the people who will be spending New Years Eve at home in their PJ's with their pants." :aargh:

I wondered, until I read it a third time, if this was A Thing people did on New Years Eve, and I'd somehow missed the memo!

How about sitting with your pet while wearing pants? Lol. Sometimes our eyes and brain do not converse well

Sue and I usually head out on a cruise over New Years but not this year. Sue had some health issues which, much to my relief, have been attended to successfully. We plan to spend the time being together, having a snack and watching a movie. So glad that 2018 will soon be over. Not a good year for us.

We plan to have a few relatives over to sit by the fire pit and see in the new year. My husband usually goes to bed before midnight and that's OK. I just found out our X-DIL has to work Monday so by the time she gets up here (she lives 30 miles away) it'll be after dark. I'm glad she's coming though. Our youngest son will come up from LA but his wife has to stay behind and work. Then we will have 2 adult grandsons and their significant others here. Another X-DIL said she'll try to come by. So today we put 9 chairs around the fire pit. Anyone who comes up has to spend the night. We always keep the gate locked. Our son is bringing his big dog Homer and there will be 4 other dogs here plus about 7 outdoor cats so it'll be a fun time.

It was just my husband and I here on Christmas but everyone, especially the city people all like to come up to the mountains for an out door fire on New Years.

I don't go out anymore as I live in England, but
still follow some of the tradition I learned when
I was young.

Make sure the house is clean and tidy in case
you get any "First Foot" visitors.

Have a meal after 9 PM in case there is some
heavy drinking involved, if any visitors arrive.

Then it sit back, with a drink and watch the
TV, not too good here, only crowds and some
fireworks, but I found that "Alba" TV comes
from Scotland in Gaelic, with subtitles, is very
good, I have that on the computer as I can't
get on the TV.

Toast in the New Year, then phone family and
friends around the Country and the World,
and go to bed.

Mike.

Can't wait......

Simply two words...……..staying home! Absolutely nothing goes on here for Seniors, and if it did, probably wouldn't go anyway. This city is full of young drivers that will have been drinking half of the night and drive totally recklessly.

Will stay at home, have a bite to eat, drink a little champagne and TRY to stay up to see the Ball come down in NY. Will also hear the fire crackers and guns shooting off. If someone is caught, or reported, there is not questions asked by management...……..they are totally evicted. Heard of one family that that happened to. The father shot off his shotgun and a neighbor reported him.

My Monday night Scrabble group is having our usual game at a friend's house, followed by a little bit of New Year's refreshments. I'm sure we'll all be home and back in bed by midnight, which is fine with me!

The next day, going out with friends for lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant.

I've long ago gotten over any desire for loud, noisy celebrating on New Year's Eve. But I have to say, I'm glad to see this year end. Not a good one, world-wide.

This will be the first year my husband and I will not be living in the City for New Years Eve. Because we lived in Philadelphia we always had a lot of company and some would sleep over so they could go to see the Mummers Parade which was right around the corner from our house. I'll miss it in away but I am also happy that I won't have to do all the cooking I did for days before. This year we are in our new home in the suburbs and we are living near my daughter and her family, so we will be visiting her and some of her friends will be there also.

Oh-is it New Year's Eve,then?
Oh,Crikey...right...New Year's resolution time;

...ummm......I know!
This year,I'll find a girlfriend.
One that isn't secretly married,or a total nutter,or has 'issues',or demands jewellery, that wears her OWN socks, doesn't fart in bed-and knows how to smile.
Resolution Number 2/....forget resolution number one ever existed and stay as I am,with guitars, pooches and single.

Oh - and HAPPY BIRTHDAY,terry123! have a jolly one, sweetheart. XXX

Usually, I celebrated both in a large group or just me- watching it on TV. I don't understand the song they sing, but it's tradition. One of things I like about New Years is the strange traditions different cultures have about the holiday. Here's a few I heard. Like the first person you should kiss at 12, for supposed love and good luck. You have to go out and come in at 12, for good luck. Who the first person through your front door should be-luck. There was a lot more that I forgot.
