News Media Sensationalizes Things Ridiculously!

They love to play up the drought Here , Makes no sense to to me , we have all that water in the oceans , why not just do away with all the drought for the home owners, farms exc by building desalination plants and pumping the water in, my water rates got raised this year, they will be calling on us to reduce water use later this year , these people here act like they have no brain , all they want to do is fill their own pockets , instead of ideas on how to solve this. Four percent of Utah's water is used indoors at residences and 6 percent outdoors for a residential total of just 10 percent. Commercial, industrial and institutional users consume another 8 percent. The remaining 82 percent — more than four gallons out of every five — goes to farms and ranches.

Don't get me wrong, I agree the media certainly are the ones that stir the pot of many evils that are brought onto this world. I am not sure I would have expressed it as you did, but I certainly understand what you are saying. As for those who fought over in the Middle East, they did not put their lives on the line for nothing and to tell them that would be absurd.

Too bad we cannot get into a political discussion or I could supply you with plenty of refutation to settle the matter.

Maybe so politically, but I think if you ask many of those soldiers directly who were over there they would say to your face that they did accomplish something and would be quite upset for people saying they were over there for nothing .

Do you have any suggestions for those who like to watch the News? I have thought of shutting it off but would miss things so I don't.
Ask yourself what can I do to change what I'm hearing?

Like your example of the weather. The answer would be nothing to change it, so being prepared would be your course of action.

Apply that to any news and you should be OK.

Thankfully news like impending nasty weather gives a person a chance to prepare.

I know that I helped some people, and the kids, my wife helped her people , but we were over taken by events beyond our control

Look at Afghanistan today and how it is pleading for help from the world to rebuild its decimated infrastructure. Who is going to pay for that?

And from what I heard the soldiers attempted to train the Afghanistan soldiers on how to rebuild and restore the country once they left, but those soldiers refused to listen or had given up.

I got fed up with CNN and their constant announcement of: Important BREAKING NEWS coming up next! Every day? Really? Is every news item a big world-changing shocker?
I don't watch those news channels anymore. Not only do they have BREAKING NEWS, but once they break it then they beat it with a stick for hours on end and say the same thing over and over and over again with just different commentators and special guests saying the exact same thing about it.

What does it mean if something is sensationalized?

English Language Learners Definition of sensationalize:

: to describe or show something in a way that makes it seem more shocking than it really is.

I have spoken of this before but I have come to realize that this causes unwarranted worry and anxiety and nervousness as a result.

For example, there is a Winter snow storm happening...they make it out like we are living in the 1800s with no resources or help for us or like we all are going to die or something. Well, we have snow plow trucks and snow blowers now and people shovel and it's all going to be alright like it always is.

So, I suggest if you get very worried or anxious about the news then have some self talk and say "it's going to be okay, it always is!" "It's not as bad as they make it out to be."

Like the late Andy Rooney said, much of the general public wants sensationalism.. you won't read a story in the news that says "The oranges are hanging on the trees, growing.."
And then add propaganda to it, and it can get really messy.

In the U.S. the side effects must be listed. They infrequently occur but must be listed as a warning.
Long ago, I had a family doctor whose nurse said they made a point of not giving the inserts that listed side effects to patients, because some patients would be afraid to take the medicines and others would believe they had side effects when they didn't...

Left-wing outlets pull to the left. Right-wing outlets pull to the right. The truth, if there is such a thing, is usually somewhere in the middle.

The only thing I remember from high school physics is that if two equal forces pull something in different directions at 45 degree angles, that object will move straight ahead.

Hard to believe these commercials that say..act quickly time is limited..tune in a month later and the ad is still there..guess it depends who chooses how limited time is….

Some media outlets flat-out lie. The truth doesn't lie somewhere between the facts and a political spin on the facts. As much as some people can't handle the truth, the truth is what the facts say it is; it's what reality says it is, not what pundits and politicians want it to be or what they twist it to be to fit their world view.

If you're suggesting that right-wing outlets lie (they do) and left-wing outlets don't, you're flat-out wrong. They both lie extensively, just about different things and in different ways.

A long time ago, I used to read the British publication The Economist for what I thought was as close to an objective representation of the world as could possibly be obtained.

Sadly, The Economist is not like that anymore, but I still think objectivity is possible. In fact, I'm cursed with objectivity. I see both sides of most issues and line up on different sides on different matters. I'm pro-gun control, for example (in much more stringent ways than most people would go for). But I think we are spending ourselves into a debt quagmire we'll never get out of, and need to get taxes and spending in line, and do so pretty quickly.

Can't rebuild a country destroyed by imperialist war without money. Afghanistan was occupied for 20 years which accomplished absolutely nothing for that land. As soon as the Taliban re-emerged the people embraced them as their only legitimate government. Now it's time for that country to be get reparations for their losses. This is something the controlled news media refuses to report.

we do not watch news....anymore...we did look at weather Channel for 10 minutes this morning...enough...
no news...is good news
Good for you. I cut the cable 22 years ago before it was "sexy" to cut the cable. I just watch the news on the internet, using titles to get me what I want to read. Can't stand TV news. I believe it is bad for your mental and physical health.

The silly lines that the media uses are beyond belief. eg: Omicron is spreading like lighting. Those clowns must have never seen lighting! In addition, I can't stand all those "little bars" running along the bottom giving you more garbage to read while you are suppose to be listening to the news. Sometimes there is a bar along the right side of the screen. What brainless wonder ever designed those? I hope they fired him/her!
