No More Mum & Dad.. says 4 PC English headteachers

That happened a few months ago at a fancy schmancy private school in Manhattan. Don't know the outcome.
 

Do these people go to bed at night to dream up yet more idiotic ways of being 'offended?'
Who remembers Thetford Job Centre?
A Hertfordshire recruitment agency boss says she was told she could not request "reliable and hard-working" applicants.
Devonwood Recruitment boss Nicole Mamo said the Jobcentre Plus in Thetford, Norfolk, told her such an advert could be "offensive" to unreliable people.

i think the effect will be opposite for some ... Kids will know why they are forced to change language they most likely always used, and the kids it is suppose to include may be singled out that they are the cause of the change.

When did everyone's situation become a problem for everyone else......

We had non traditional families clear back to when i was a child ... most families decided how they wanted to be referred to but did not ask everyone else to change to conform to their situation.
Any kid who we had to tap dance around to not offend............ often knew how people felt after school hours etc....

They can call their friends parents "grown ups" or by there actual names with Mr and Mrs in front of them, but their own parents should be called Mom/Mum and Dad.

What minority?? What about those with parents who have not yet grownup?

A few years back I was working for a big engineering company and they were going through one of those phases of trying to be politically correct. We did a lot of sewer design work and all the big designs were on a centralized system.

Someone decided that "manhole" was no longer an appropriate term and they did a global change to "humanhole" the next day sewer designs from Hong Kong to New York to London suddenly had humanholes. It didn't take long to reverse that decision... but I was ok with humanhole, it has a number of possible interpretations.

I take you have never seen the three classes sketches with John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett on the Frost Report. Although they probably never did refer to their parents it is something they might have said according to their status.

yes we've had all that here , including not using the word Black in the nursery rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep..
 
You can’t get rid of Mom or Dad salutation…when my kids came home from school..first thing they yelled as they walked in…Mom Mom…and I would answer ..she moved out..then, when something broke or needed picking up the call was Dad Dad…can’t change that.

I'll tell you something. Maybe we really need World War III to smarten up these busy bodies? Perhaps Putin is going to give it to us? We have real problems like climate change, Covid 19 and that Putin fella. I am really sick with politically correct nobodies trying to be somebodies. First, they wanted to get rid of the name Christmas and replace it with "Mid Winter Festival." Easter was suppose to become "Spring Festival." Now this crap! I think the whole bunch of them should be fired for their stupidity. I'm sure all "mums and dads" would approve!

The high percentages are yet more evidence of systemic bias of the 80% unwashed masses against the 20% elite. If the peasants are unhappy let them eat muffins at Starbucks instead of cutting off the heads of their betters. What would Mater and Pater think?

That is the problem, the "dumbing down of society." It has been going on for decades. Just look at some of the TV shows, the advertising, the T-shirts that some men & women wear, the books out there and the magazines. There probably has never been a better time in the human history to be dumb than the present few decades. It is really "cool." Intelligence seems to be made fun of and the dumb and dumber are praised. My goodness! I think we are really in trouble!
 
I think if you went to a school board meeting, and had to deal with all the "offended parents", a lot of this 'PC" is understandable. I had a teacher friend, who used to tell me about out of control parents. For instance, you think kids could just get on the bus to go home. Uh uh." My kid stays on the bus longer than your kid". So kids have to board the bus in the same order they get off. They have to have check lists, and documentation that teachers are doing this.

Fortunately, that is not the norm in most school board meetings. I've been to many and they are serious business.
