Not buying anything new, just replacing the old.

I'm still typing my fingers off, buying stuff. You're not going to believe this, but after 30 years, I have to buy new lamp shades. They were crisp and white once.....
Then it dawned on me. I'm not buying new things, I'm just replacing the old things. Are you buying more things to add to what you already have, or are you just replacing the worn out things?

I have done some replacing just over the last few years; bedding, towels, a dining room set and a few lamps. Less than 3 years ago I replaced my stove, refrigerator, microwave and range hood. I'm done! (except now I want a new coffee table)

I try not to add and just replace but recently I saw a little framed photo of a Bluebird that was perfect for the wall in my kitchen. I'm sure there will be more items I won't be able to resist and now with the post holiday sales going I'll need blinders on as I walk through the stores.

Some of both. My Keurig coffee maker, for instance, is new. It didn't replace my old coffee pot, it just improved on it.

But yesterday I threw out a little desk lamp that wasn't working any more, and bought a new one (online, for under ten bucks!)

Mostly trying to get rid of stuff so the kids won't have to once we're not here anymore. I suppose we replace more than add these days. I'm thinking there will still be plenty of stuff for the kids to toss when the time comes but I'm sure they'll find it interesting if nothing else.

Same here. I am trying to have a something in/something out way of doing things. Be it with clothes or appliances. Just have to get hubby on board. If he had his way, we would keep all of the old stuff, even if it does not work well.+

A couple of months ago,I replaced my toaster with a new one I bought at Big Lots, what a difference. No longer do I eat half toasted English muffins/toast Sue

Santa brought me new towels to replace ones that I've had for years.
Replaced two lamps (bought online) that I have had for years.
Would love to replace my everyday dishes, but what's the point when
it is only I who uses them. So I am trying to replace the word want
with the word need, but not so much fun.

Trying to get rid of things. Only buying things that need replacing. Don't need anything else that needs dusting!!! Just going to keep things that I really care about.

I buy things that don't need replacing simply because I'm fed up with them... I get tired of things very easily.. This year I've replaced a sideboard...the old but perfect condition one I'd had for 10 years went to a good home for free, but I was just fed up with the colour of the old one.... I've replaced endless things that didn't necessarily need replacing. I change my dishes after a few years because I see nicer colours or patterns and the Charity shops get mine to sell. I take very good care of my things don't break stuff, don't damage them , so whoever gets them after me are getting almost new stuff.. .

Just today I bought a new kettle..I don't NEED it..but the kettle I have which is only 2 years old and expensive, and matches my kitchen perfectly.. is very loud plus we live in a very hard water area so it constantly needs de-scaling, so I bought another one today, cheaper than the last one but this time in brushed chrome instead of the duck egg blue and cream that I already have ( love the colour but not the noise) This month I bought a new bed... i didn't NEED a new bed..my bed was only 10 years old.. beautiful light Oak frame sleigh bed style, perfect condition .. but I did need more storage so I bought an Ottoman bed a little bigger than my old bed.. my old bed is now dismantled and ready to go up for sale online at a really good discounted price..

I'm a sucker for new towels, and bedding tho'...and find it hard to throw out any..

I try my best not to add stuff to the house, rather I try for the most part the one in one out approach... if only I could do the same with clothing and shoes.. :eek:hwell:. tubular
