A neighbor showed a mailed invitation sent to her dog,Sparky, to attend a birthday party for another neighbors dog named Hunter.
She thought it was funny and asked if she should go, my reply is "who the hell attends a birthday party for a dog?"
Next you'll be invited to a funeral for their cat.
This couple has 3 young kids,2 dogs and a cat.
 

I would go in a heartbeat. People who love their animals are usually kind and loving people. A friend and I celebrate a communal birthday for our cats every year. I cook fresh fish sprinkled with catnip, they love it!!
 
My daughter definitely would have a little birthday party for her dogs...she makes birthday cakes from liver and beef and all sorts of doggie treats for them
 
Cute! ... my dogs have loved the following on their birthdays ... never gave them a party with friends though.

Dog birthday cake recipe someone gave me years ago:
2 pounds ground turkey breast
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 c shredded carrot
1/2 c milk
1 egg
2 T ketchup
Combine all and mix well.

Press into 9x9 pan (lightly oiled) ...Bake about 35-40 min.

For Frosting ... peel/cut up several boiled potatoes. Mash and add milk. Mix and spread on cake.
 
I think it's cute! The young kids will enjoy it. :)
Dogs love attention and food.

OTOH, cats....um, no. My cat would roll her eyes at the idea of such silliness. Then she would go take a nap.

Bonnie, your birthday cake recipe sounds perfect, I know my doggie would love it.

Shalimar, fish with catnip sprinkles also sound perfect (purr-fect).

I wish I could have a party for my dog, but ther'e only the possibilty of 3 guests in a small condo:

Dog next door who hates other dogs.
Dog up the road who is a huge boxer; nice but jumps on everyone uncontrollably.
Dog across the way whom my dog doen't like.
