OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Ten Commandments monument at the state Capitol must be removed.

The plaintiffs said its placement at the Capitol constituted the use of public property for the benefit of a system of religion, which is banned by the Oklahoma Constitution.

Because the monument operates for the use, benefit or support of a sect or system of religion, it violates the Oklahoma Constitution, the five-page opinion said.

The part it violates reads: “No public money or property shall ever be appropriated, applied, donated, or used, directly or indirectly, for the use, benefit, or support of any sect, church, denomination, or system of religion, or for the use, benefit, or support of any priest, preacher, minister, or other religious teacher or dignitary, or sectarian institution as such.”

Why does it matter if it violates their constitution? Take a vote of EVERY resident, verify results (if possible), then allow/disallow, based on popular opinion. imp

and so it continues the tearing down of all that made this nation great... no God doesn't care but one day we will.....

Ronald, don't you believe that God writes the law in our hearts ?

Monuments commemorate the dead and the past.
If the law is in our hearts it cannot be dead and therefore needs no stone memorial.

I couldn't disagree more. This is the upholding of a principle that does, in fact, make this nation great - Separation of Church and State. Good for Oklahoma!!!

In a related news-piece, it has been revealed that a poster-board filled with several pithy sayings of L. Ron Hubbard will be erected on the site ...

It has to be made obvious that we enjoy not only the right to worship where and how we choose but must also be free of the dogma of any religion. Public sites are no more appropriate places for religion than for anti-religion.
