OMG..They do exist...Victorian water closet

A real Victorian water closet. I have no idea if this was factual or a prop. It sure does look real.

Pappy I'd have felt really claustrophobic sitting it that thing......I like more elbow room and the wide open spaces.

Ike, I had friends who dropped out to live in a cabin and make jewelry. He had a set up that was a little fancier than your photos, but not by much. His had a shelter over and around it because he didn't like what happened to his reading material in show and rain.

He would dig a hole and set up his portable privy, then after a time he would move it to another hole and plant a fruit tree in the old hole. He had quite an orchard.

I suspect that it is a prop. A very nice water closet, but it looks like it is on display in the sitting room or parlor where guests would be.

There is a two-story outhouse attached to a hotel in San Juan Batista state historical park. Ladies used the upper outhouse, gents were relegated to the lower one. It was, unfortunately, closed to the public or you just know I would have indulged in it.

Ike, we've seen a couple of those open space ones alongside the road, amazing how out in the open they were, luckily I didn't have to use one. The ones we saw were minus the TP and the Squatty Potty step.
