On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your sense of humor?

Having a sense of humor largely means having a sense for the absurd. It's the surprise element in something that happens or is said that somehow tickles us. It kind of throws us off balance for a few seconds. Having a good sense of humor also involves being able to laugh at oneself. I think I have a pretty good sense of humor. I sure do recognize when I don't. Have you ever said to something or someone "that's not funny"?

Talk about a someone who can't read the room. Sheesh!

I wonder if he got kicked off another forum and landed here. He started out posting like a longtime member, a rarity among people who don't have a lot of forum experience.

Today my sense of humor is 0-0.5. It is raining outside and dark inside. Grrr. I might chuckle, but no guffaw that's for sure.
 
I gave myself 8 that could be enhanced to a 10 with the addition of two beers.

But on a serious note, there are some categories of what people consider funny that I do not:

America's Funniest Home Videos are not funny to me at all. People falling down, getting hit and all the other rough stuff on that show is not the least bit funny. I do not like to see people get hurt.

Angry humor does not cut it either. Jackie Gleason was a mean spirited oaf. Humor that demeans people doesn't cut it.

Red Skelton was funny, Jay Leno is funny.

I detest comedy that ridicules people. If a nightclub comedian gets someone up from the audience and proceeds to ridicule them, I am heading for the door.

I think that a significant portion (not all) of what is commonly called "practical jokes" has a strong element of meanness buried in it. Hazing is not funny. Setting up the "new guy/gal" for embarrassment is not funny.

So I am sticking with an 8.
 
@Pecos - I am on the same page as you with all of the above. Don Rickles never struck me as funny - he was a bully. Despite some reports about him being a wonderful person behind the scenes, I don't believe anybody could be that savage unless he/she has a huge mean streak. When Joan Rivers used to tee off on Elizabeth Taylor's weight, my brain thought: Joan, who's kidding whom? You only wish you had half her class, style, grace and beauty, overweight or not.

I never did understand why people thought Don Rickles was funny. There were times when Joan Rivers was funny, but she stepped over the boundary on a pretty regular basis and that got old.
 
Sevenish. I don't laugh out loud at everything that amuses me and people mistake my grin for not liking a joke. I don't like stand up comedy at all. Absurd real-life happenings and well written humor are funnier to me than jokes.
 
Around thirty years ago there was an excellent humorist on PBS.
he told stories, rather than jokes which is what humorist do.
Each of his story/jokes took around ten minutes to present to the audience,
Some were very, very funny , others not so funny.

Almost forgot, Ron White is a sort of humorist, but boy is he turned nasty-to get the
bookings and big bucks I guess. Now he's just a potty mouth comedian.

Today, we require the immediacy of a laugh, regardless of how crude it is...
 
Not sure I would rate my humour but since I've been having banter with Aunt Marg over the riddles and Gary O's Meanwhile in the ....... I have never laughed so much. Sometimes it good to have someone to bounce off. :giggle::giggle:
