One for Ralphy

How could any sane person live there? You couldn't make me at gun point...

Scary.. It's pretty dangerous thing to live in Australia. Have you ever had a snake in your house, Warrigal:confused:.
No. I live in the suburbs and it would be unusual to encounter one. I have seen the occasional one when bushwalking but as long as you look carefully when stepping over a log in the springtime you are pretty safe. Snakes avoid humans if at all possible and scurry away when they hear you coming.

Unlike Warrigal, I live in the "bush" - country area where snakes are fairly prevalent.
I've had red bellied snakes, and a brown in my yard.
You just know that they are around, so take the necessary precautions. Look before you put you hand into any part of the garden - wear good thick gloves.
I also have a fairly regular crop of red back spiders. Their web is pretty easy to see - not so much a web, as strands hanging down.
I was bitten once by a red back - a bit of swelling, but nothing life threatening.

Well, that would get your heart started, wouldn't it? I have recessed lighting in my kitchen, had bees come in that way. Can't imagine a snake dropping down while I'm sitting there.

I have even smaller "terrorists" in my garden - ticks. I only realised they are there, when found some on my cat. Earlier they used to stay in damp, shady areas, now they are everywhere - in woods, parks and gardens. I've read everything I could find how to fight them, but as I'm not in favour of chemicals on every occasion, I stick to natural repellents, which are some weeds and herbs, and plant them in less sunny places. From poisonous snakes to ticks -funny.:)

Fortunate that I have encountered one deer tick since I've had dogs. Sharp nails and I threw it in the bushes. We only have garden snakes that become cat toys. When we lived in Florida you had fire ants...the creatures from Hell, the odd snake but still a cat toy, oh and gators showing up in the most unexpected places.
