My late husband was a bass fisherman and thus spent a fair amount of time at rural fish camps around Florida. When you go into one of these fish camps, there are a bunch of old fisherman who have been hanging around for millennia and they don't take too kindly to outsiders. However, if you are respectful and don't brag, they will accept you....you're still an new dog but you get to hang around as long as you stay in your place.
He was hanging around one day and a guy swaggers in to buy bait who has just put his new ultra-fancy bass boat in the water. One of the old men saunters in and says, "Waaal, that's a right nice boat you have out there." The new guy starts bragging about how much it costs, and how fast it goes, and how many goodies it has on board and how it's going to blast everybody else out of the water. Everybody comments for several minutes agreeing how great a boat it is, with the new guy bragging more, and finally the original old guy drawls, "Waaal, ya might want to go out and take a look at it. Appears that it's sinking." Apparently, New Guy had left the plug out and the boat was filling with water.
Moral of the story: if you want to run with the Old Dogs, stay in the rear and DON'T BARK.
