Open Topic... Anything Pumpkin Spice

A couple of times I made pumpkin chili for fall block parties (chili powder being the spice). Served it in a pumpkin. It was pretty good and a real conversation piece which I guess was the idea.

I've had that... and always liked it. I should dig it out again. Skip that... found it.

Pumpkin Turkey Chili

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup chopped yellow pepper
Garlic powder
1 pound ground turkey
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 can green chiles
1 can black beans
2 cups pumpkin puree
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Sprinkle of cumin
At least 1 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup sour cream

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and saute the onion, bell peppers, and garlic until tender. Stir in the turkey, and
cook until evenly brown. Drain, and mix in tomatoes and pumpkin. Season with chili powder, pepper, and cumin. Add chicken broth until
the right consistency. Add black beans and chilies. Stir. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 20 minutes. (Or transfer to slow cooker
at this point and cook on low for at least 6-8 hours.) Serve topped with Cheddar cheese and sour cream. **This is good with Ritz
crackers instead of saltines.

I got curious enough to google Pumpkin Spice Ingredients, and here's what I found:

What's In Pumpkin Spice? Pumpkin spice (a.k.a. pumpkin pie spice) is an aromatic blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Sometimes allspice is included.

Another recipe included a little bit of black pepper. Although that sounds more like Halloween Witch blend.

For a special treat, I used to mix cinnamon and sugar to sprinkle on the kids’ breakfast toast.

Fights have been known to break out at Costco when they’re down to the last couple on the table. Also tales of folks stealing from the carts of other shoppers.
We haven't encountered any fights yet, but we usually go when it's not busy. Since my husband, who owned his own business, used to be free to go during working hours, that's when we used to go. Now my son either goes after work (he may get off as early as 12:30 ) or if I want to go myself, we'll head out to be there by the time Costco opens.

Your reply made me think....time to buy a Costco apple pie. Now that's something to fight over! It's so good and so big that I'll share it with my Honorary Daughter and (youngest) grandson. I'm going to add that to my list as soon as I get off the computer. 😛 Here's an internet photo of a slice;

I have pumpkin pie spice. I use it in oatmeal all year, along with cinnamon.

One time I saw pumpkin spice scented trash bags at the store. No joke. Going a little far.

Pumpkin pie is my favorite but I have to make it from scratch so I haven't in a few years. I don't like all the pumpkin flavor stuff Trader Joe's rolls out.

Looks interesting Mark, but I can't imagine pumpkin with mozzarella and definitely not pasta sauce. Might be good though.
That's the ick factor for me, too... the cheese. I thought it was a dessert pizza with the pudding and caramel... but that cheese! That's not pasta sauce, it's vanilla pudding mixed with the pumpkin puree. I'd try it as a dessert pizza, but that mozzarella definitely ruins it! 🥺
