Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

Well, the first (really rough) prototype is now housing
about 20 or so kitchen utensils

I pretty much hate when my prototype is used
It's not a finished product, and a bit of a reflection on what I accept

but

it's her kitchen

I suggested it could be a container for her knitting needles

'YES!.....YES!'

So, it looks like I'll be making one for those
....or, maybe 50 of those
She's got hundreds, maybe thousands of long needles
All the better to motivate you. There is always a needle close at hand in the event that you misbehave (but that probably never happens )

Not a whole lot goin' on, so, thought I'd go ahead and fill the inventory shelf with tiny avian abodes.
Since it's gonna be a busy spring and summer

This one, in semi finished, I might not let go
The roots so wondrously wrap around the entry

I screw the roots on from the inside so nothing showing

Gotta say, I'm lovin' this Ryobi light I got myself for Christmas
Love the clamp feature
and the intensity

It's hard to control which critters get the food we put out. I've been bemoaning the amount of seed and suet the squirrels are taking from our bird feeders, but that blacktail . . . I'll bet s/he really cleans up!

Our first year in this house, we were foolish enough to think we could leave the thistle seed feeders up year round. Yogi thought it was a great idea.

That was a Droll Yankee "squirrel-proof" feeder. Didn't say anything on the packaging about bears. :ROFLMAO:

As mentioned, my stock shelf for avian abodes is rather barren

Lousy weather tends to promote wood butchering
Of late I've come to build these tiny dwellings in lots of three

I center on aligning the entry with the grain
giving the grain a crowning effect
Highlighting it all by feathering in a dark stain on the rises

I love it when a knot dictates entry placement

I missed the mark with this one

The fix will be widening the entry (pardon the cut/paste)

Can't help noticing, but they both look like mouths. The first one is saying "Oh!" and this second one is saying "Come and get it!"

Finished it today

Happy
(not overjoyed with the iPhone photo quality)

I kept it simple
No extended roots thru the roof and such
to not take away from this particular root system that happily wraps/twists itself around the opening

I love it when I can reveal the magnificence of the nutrient seeking journey taken by the lowly pine tree root

Creation's splendor is everywhere

This wee abode has given me fits
Took forever to yield a less than product

Heh, even the pics are lousy (might be the photog)

Glad it's done

Tomorrow....

A better one
I like the less than perfect ones, they look as if they are a creation of nature. I love the little crooked roof, it gives the impression of a top hat set at a jaunty angle.

Have you ever thought of making insect hotels? You could probably have fun creating those, maybe even put plaques on them and create your own little hotel chain ;) :)

Heh heh.......I'm thinking (as much as that's a sweet idea) that's not one I'm gonna pursue
