Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

That's all well and good until they meet a Mockingbird. (for those that don't know, the Mockingbird sings every bird song) beautiful and ferocious bird.

As its name says, a Northern Mockingbird mimics sounds within its environment. Anything from birds and frogs to human sounds like alarm clocks, car alarms, machinery, garage door opener, the Northern Mockingbird will use it all to create a fascinating call.

Identifying the Northern Mockingbird doesn’t have to be hard. If you hear a string of bird calls together (that aren’t overlapping), there is a very good chance you are listening to a Northern Mockingbird. Most times, a mockingbird is sitting up high, like on a lamppost, peak of roof or the tops of trees. Their singing will sound like a Long Playing record. Their mating songs accompanied by somersaults in the air are breathtaking. When in flight, they resemble a pinwheel.

When living in the mountains, lawn (yard) chairs became necessary furniture for summers, as most our time was spent outside

Found these to be best

Bought a half dozen of them for visitors, and placement throughout the parcel

By the time we moved to town, a few of them had rotten seat material from sun and weather over the six years we were up there

These chairs run around forty bucks

Just the seat was rotted out

So, I tore off the material, and bought a couple yards of like canvas

Tough spot to stitch

So
Installed grommets and fastened the canvas to it with bungie cord

Around $20 to fix a couple chairs

Not unhappy

Thanks, kid
Thses tasks, like grommet installs have always been tedious
Now
It takes an ultimate effort
My sense of feel has really come into play

Just glad to be organized and know where everything is....or should be
How are your eyes doing?
I know you have macular degeneration
How’s your wife?
Are you still liking it in your ‘in town’ lot?

Getting noticeably worse by the day

My lady is my eyes when it comes to emails and now driving
She hates to drive, so I am careful with any criticisms

I'm really enjoying riding shotgun
even though I don't see much
I’m sorry your eyes are failing you.
Hopefully you don’t need to drive often.
It’s good that you moved when you did.
Luckily you have a good woman standing by you. Take Care Gary ((((( Gary )))))♥️

Greetings, Ol Pard! It has been awhile since I checked in with you. Gary, your years together at the cabin, brought you both great joy, along with the great challenges. I'm pretty sure that they also drew you and your Lady closer together, forging an unbreakable bond.

I sense that your move to town, was a God-send! Your subsequent "nest-building" joint efforts have placed you both in a good, safe place to be at this time in your married life.

There's no such thing as an earthquake in slow motion, but I feel like your gradual, slow moving loss of sight has been, somehow, like one. Reach out to each other and family for help, and together continue reaching out to God. "His arm is not short, that He cannot save, and His ear is not deaf, that He cannot hear" (Isaiah 59:1). There are many, who are lifting you both up in prayer.

"Be strong, and of good courage, for the Lord thy God....He it is that goes with you! He will not fail you, nor forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:6) - Jim

Gary, you mentioned some sight failure awhile back as I recall. Now it seems somewhat worse. May I remind you to be careful in everything you do? I'm sorry this is happening to you.

You made me smile when you said:

You're a very wise man, Gary. ;) 🫂

That is so true
There have been times, not long ago, I considered moving back to the cabin (when my vision was still somewhat intact)
Now?
I know this move was God given
Just the 50 mile trip to town might as well be 5000 miles

The Lord has blessed us with this place

And we're so very happy to give it to our son and his girls

It wasn't my first choice
It's pretty ugly
But, has pretty much cured my problem with pride

and I'm so thankful

I think there are built in Microsoft features that will manage the computer screen so it is like you have a magnifying glass.
True
However
bigger is better, but not necessarily best

I would love to find a bold feature for all incoming stuff, emails, forums...everything

I'm going to get with some techies that can advise what's available

Good luck with that Gary. My wife was just advised by a friend that we should really hire someone to come to our home and help us over all our tech hurdles.

I have a friend with limited sight who has programs to read books to her. I could ask her what exactly she uses. She is a librarian so obviously she need work arounds.

Gary,

Ask the techies about text to speech for your computer.

Microsoft offers it for outlook and there is an app called Speechify.

I'm really happy with the audio features available.
It's a great tool for my studies and devotions

Thanks, Mark
