Outside of Sleeping, Americans Spend Most of Their Time Watching Television

All is good as long as it doesn't become an addiction. Like you I am glad that the masks are gone. However, there is a large very vocal crying and screaming for them to come back again. I don't see the problem. You want to wear a mask, go ahead. Just don't scream in my face that I should wear one too just to make someone happy.

I have a big screen 4k TV, however, I rarely (maybe once or twice in the past few months) have actually turned it on to watch tv. Instead, I use it for work, hooked up to my laptop. It's like having 4 screens to have open all the windows I need to view at any given moment. While there are many great classic movies I love to watch, I tend to keep too busy with other activities to sit and watch anything. But yes, I definitely LOVE that guilty pleasure when I get a chance! Only thing that can command my time more than work or hobbies is a great book!

The only thing I watch on tv is "Criminal Minds" on Netflix. I usually am on the computer with air phones on so I don't have to hear what my Hubby has on tv.He enjoys watching News and odd shows.

Not this American. I am sick of the garbage that comes out of hollywood, and the propaganda news media. I do spend more time than is probably healthy on the computer though. I love to learn and am a "do it yourselfer" and the internet is a limitless source of educational information. Since retiring I've learned how to play the bass guitar, learned music theory, which I had always wondered about, got really good at solving the Rubik's cube, and taught my grandson to do the same, became a lot more computer literate, discovered numerous online sources of more credible national and world news, done a tremendous amount of research and study regarding the theology and doctrinal questions that I've had much of my life, done numerous home and yard and automotive repairs that i hadn't found time to do, rebuilt a vintage motorcycle that has been in my shed for 35 years, etc., etc. I've also spent a lot of time doing research on relationshp issues in hopes of better understanding women, most specifically my wife. Unfortunately, I think understanding my wife, let alone women in general is above my pay grade and intellectual capacites. Bottom line is television makes me feel like I'm wasting what little, precious time I have left.

I'm staying with my favourite Daughter # 1. When I came she was excited showing me how the TV in my bedroom works. I have been here 4 days so far and have not put it on even once. I prefer to walk outside each morning and then there are tons of things to do outside of TV. TV has become a "baby sitter" to many. I'm glad that I can still do things as it seems life is just to short to waste watching a lot of TV. You may differ but this way of thinking sure works for the ole Packer.

I don't spend enough time watching T.V. I usually watch shows or parts of shows when I eat (I really shouldn't do that) and maybe 1 hour more of something(s) later in the day. I have so much stuff in my watch lists, I'll never get through all of it but it's nice to be able to watch what I want when I want.

Me too, Diva. The old days where you had to watch what was "on" at a certain time on a certain day of the week seem so archaic now. I love the choice, and I also love being able to watch an episode or a movie as many times as I like.

Right now, I'm enjoying Breaking Bad for the second time. I like it better than the first time!

Yep, I am one with the TV on a lot. But, sometimes I have it in the background while I am doing other things, like housework, or compute stuff. I TRY not to let it be my only focus. That can be difficult, sometimes.
And the pandemic did not help.
I am with you. I watch a LOT of tv and now that I am in an apartment, and don’t have a dog to care for, I watch even more TV which I wouldn’t have thought possible. 😂. It is also on when I do the little housework that I do, which is very little.

When I can’t sleep at night in bed, which is often, I settle into my recliner, put something really boring on the tv, and thankfully fall asleep For a short while. I still manage 8000 steps a day as I wait for my hip to fully heal. (About an inch of the incision simply refuses to heal completely as well.). I read a little as well with tv on.

I do not try and make it not my focus. I love my tv shows. I make no apologies or excuses. I have been know to have a melt down when cable goes out 😂 and I keep a stack of favorite dvds for when this happens. Another reason I stay married, he can afford cable, I can not. I recently got free Apple TV for 3 months. 😍.

So little time, so many shows, and I will be on vacation for two weeks ☹️. Riding in the car, walking around the various tourist traps, seeing my daughter and her family, missing senior forum and my shows. Life can be so hard sometimes. 😂😂😂

Yes, I LOVE TV.

TV recreation? You are sitting on your A.. all the time, maybe eating junk food and not getting a second of much needed exercise. I watch 2 hours of TV each night. I buy DVDs from Amazon. I hate commercials and find most TV shows geared to the very simple element of our society. It's making dumb people even more dumb. Each to their own but I'm heading for the Yukon tomorrow morning to see the real world. You can keep your "500 channels and nothing to watch."
I do not eat junk for while watching tv.

Not everybody (heck not even most once they're old enough) can visit places like the Yukon. And a lot of the time, even if they can still drive (but maybe shouldn't still be), they can't drive far enough to visit some place worth going to (as in where we are, you have to drive for hours to get out of the smoke and heat). So TV is darn well the only form of recreation that some people have access to. And that's what happens to most if they live long enough; it's not a question of IF you're going to have to give up driving, it's WHEN. A lot of people (most of whom seem to be male) don't want to face that fact, but it's reality.
This is why we bought a car with all the safety features. At 75, we are not as alert as we used to be, but the car is. While we used to drive 13 hours straight with no problem we now drive 6-8 hours with several stops to potty and walk to avoid a stroke by too much sitting.

Vacations have to be longer to accommodate less driving time. Yes, at some point it will be just to the store and back, but due to cars like our Subaru Forrester that is still a ways off and we have “miles to go before we sleep.” 😂😂😂
