Parents hold their own children captive in the home.

We can only hope that the state of California will take on the responsibility to care for those children. It is going to take many years, perhaps even decades, of psychological and sociological counseling for those children to have even a glimmer of a normal life.
It has been reported that the children did not even know what a policeman is. Nor did they know what medicine is.
It is doubtful that they have any notion of what love is.

Sometimes I am ashamed of being identified as a human being. Even animals treat their young better than that.

I haven't been in a church in years, and I'm lost with no where to turn. If God can allow this, what good is praying...
 

They should each get their own little prison cells where they're chained to the their beds 24/7 and fed once a week. They're just plain evil. Oh, and pleading not guilty? Apparently they're going for the insanity plea.
 
They usually do go for the insanity plea Olivia, they get off easier that way. :rolleyes: I heard that they would buy pies and other foods and display them to the chained children, but not allow them to eat any....same thing with toys. They weren't allowed to bathe but once a year and when they were allowed to wash their hands, they would be beaten and punished if they washed above the wrist.

I too, am deeply disturbed by this case. I fear that those poor innocent children have no chance at a normal life. My one hope for the immediate future is that the children are kept together. What little shred of security those children have is, IMO, within the group.

There have always been sadistic predators, tormenting those they are honour bound to protect.
Take heart, HipGnosis, heinous as this is, children can come back from even the most brutal and sustained sojourn in Hell. They can even build positive and productive lives. I did.

I have to say, I agree with this. I'm an agnostic, so the overwhelming evil in the world helps to reinforce my doubts. (I am equally saddened and appalled by the mistreatment of animals. So much depravity in this world.)

C'est Moi, please do not take this the wrong way. I too am saddened by the mistreatment of animals BUT that pales into insignificance compared to how I feel about the sadistic abuse of children. We, every one of us, have seen hundreds of commercials on TV against the abuse of ANIMALS. BUT, has any one ever seen a single commercial against the abuse of children ? What does that say about us as a species ?
There were laws on the books against the abuse of animals LONG BEFORE there were laws to protect children. In fact. the 1st case of child abuse ever brought to trial in the U.S. had to be prosecuted using animal abuse laws.

There is nothing on this earth I care as much about as stopping child abuse. Several times in my adult life I have witnessed child abuse and each time I have gotten in the face of the abuser and put the fear of God into them. I hate child abusers so much that it takes a tremendous amount of self control to keep from beating them into a pulp.
 
I'm not pro or con on the homeschooling issue, but I and everyone in my life have attended public schools.

Just heard on my radio, So Cal area, that some sort of state officials should be in place to check these home schooling homes on at least an annual basis. Had this been the case, just think where these children would be, but this is from years I understand of this schooling by the parents.
 
I was wondering if there was any mention of either parent working ..or were they on the welfare system ?

I seen on our news here in Australia that the parents would often eat the likes of pies in front of the starving children
I honestly don’t know how someone can be so cruel to their own flesh and blood ,I had hard times when I was young but I always made sure my kids were fed well before I had anything myself
 
It's all so bizarre and putting it all together will take years. We may never know all the facts and truth. These lives are destroyed. Will they be able to repaired? Hard to know.

They said here that the woman was a housewife and the husband did work for some time, aside from his 'teaching' at his alleged 'home school'.

Louise Turpin is a homemaker, according to a bankruptcy filing by Louise and David Turpin. The bankruptcy filing said that, at that time, David Turpin was working as an engineer for a defense contractor and earning $11,000 a month.

Authorities acknowledged that, at least at one time, the Turpins were bringing in income. However, Hestrin said the children were even denied toys, had never seen a dentist, and their contact with doctors was limited.

Furthermore, although the Turpins ran a day school at their home, it appears that their only pupils were their children, and the DA alleges that the traumatized children are so lacking in life knowledge that they did not even know what a police officer was and had never heard of medication.


The family moved to California after years of living in Texas, where the DA alleges they even lived apart from their children for a time, reappearing to periodically give the children food.

Of all the children, the very youngest will have the best chance because they were abused for a lesser amount of time. The older ones will have a wretched life. Don't be surprised if one or more commits suicide during the next decade or so. Having been severely abused as a child myself, all I can say is, their agony will continue for decades.

Did you see the photo of the kids wearing T-shirts that said. "Thing # 3, Thing # 7 etc. That is how they think of themselves, and will continue to think, for a very long time, as THINGS. It has been internalized. They believe, really believe, they are THINGS. It is going to take many years of unconditional love AND therapy to even begin to change that.
 
I saw on the news today that these children have cognitive issues because their brains were malnourished for so long. They will have many special needs and right now the state will have to see to it that they get them. They may wind up in a foster care system. The thought of that is even scary....we know sometimes foster children are abused as well. The future looks grim for these children. There may be no "bouncing back". I just pray that they will be matched with the right agencies, foster parents, therapists or whatever it is they need so they are never harmed mentally or physically again.

Oh, I agree. I just abhor cruelty in any form. Elder abuse, child abuse... any abuse is unacceptable.
 
20/20had a show on last night (Friday) about them, or what little info is known so far. These folks have lived they weary they were for years and years, no one really knew them and so they got away with it all for years. The 29year old weighed 84pounds.
