Post it or Junk it?

How often do you type out a new topic or a reply to another post and then delete it before pressing 'submit''?

I do it a lot, particularly on the serious discussion threads if I read something I have strong feelings about , but then I'll forward think it and decide that my reply could be too controversial, or the meaning could be taken a different way to how I intend...and might cause a war, so I delete.

Other times it might just be a reply where I post a reply and when I read it back it might sound to others that I'm bragging or boasting about something, which I'd hate for anyone to think so I delete...or I may go to reply to a post on a thread where I know there's someone on there who regardless of whether I say white will always pick out my post and say black just for the sake of it so I...delete!!

Lots of different times I find myself deleting rather than pressing the submit button

Do you do the same or are you a Post and be damned type of person?

To be honest I have been very tempted to reply to some posts .........then I remind myself DONT get involved in political posts I have even touched reply then the finger slides to CANCEL :)
I always remember the Incredible Hulks ......Statement in the TV shows .... Don't upset me you really wouldn't like me if you upset me....:dontworry:

I have a *very* long file filled with stuff like that, that I never submitted. Problem is... later I forget whether I actually posted the stuff or not. Don't want to repeat myself.

Holly, I don't think you should ever worry about your posts being bragging or boasting. I for one like to hear other members who have something they're proud of, good luck or good news to share. I might edit a post sometimes before hitting reply, but I rarely delete. We all disagree at times, so if I say white and someone says black, I'll just agree to disagree. No strong urge to change anyone's opinions, but do have the right to voice my own.

SB..I think it's a British proclivity more than an American trait. In the Uk unlike the USA generally speaking if you speak about what you own or have achieved, you're denounced as a boaster and a braggart..it's pretty much instilled in us from tiny tots not to boast. In the USA if you do well and achieve a lot you're generally encouraged and lauded by most who are genuinely happy for you..at least that's how it seems .

As for the black and white thing..oh I'm quite happy to put my opinion on, and someone disagree, or vice versa that's the nature of discussion, however on occasion on this forum as well as others, there's always one poster who will always disagree with whatever I post just to be irritating even if everyone else is saying the same as me, this poster will actively seek out my post and disagree with it. I could be saying the sky is blue but they will nit pick in the hope of creating an argument. ..so if I see that person has posted something nasty I just sit on my hands 9/10's of the time..or post then delete all for the sake of Harmony..I'm a fairly easy going person and long in the tooth with forums, so I spot those people a mile off and try not to retaliate .

However as kadee so succinctly said...get seriously on my wrong side and then I will not hold back..:D

I pretty much post what I believe. Others may disagree as is their right, but I say it like I mean it. What you see is what you get.

It must be a UK thing, that's not how I feel at all personally...if good things are happening with someone, I'm always happy for them. If there's just one poster disagreeing with you for the halibut, and many others are agreeing with you...believe me, we all see through it...don't give it any more importance than it deserves. You have a lot more experience with forums than I have Holly, just belong to two others, pet and health.

On the other hand, I rarely reply to more serious threads anymore as I hold a minority opinion on most topics and my replies seem to upset the general membership. Also my sense of humor doesn't quite fit in here anymore so I've put tighter reign on it.

I don't see it as a British vs American thing at all. I think maybe you're trying to make sense of the nonsensical.

Holly, clearly you have crossed paths with someone who dislikes/resents you and wants to ruin your day. You need to blow this person off. Can’t you use the ignore feature at that site? If not, I would just scroll past their posts and not answer them. Some people get really angry when another person won’t argue with them or won't even respond/acknowledge them. It happens on lots of forums, including this one. You’ve seen how I handle people.

Newsflash: I’m a straight shooter. Too harsh? Sometimes.

But I will be damned if I would delete/not post something just because some person who is probably miserable with their life might not like it. It's not my responsibility to figure out people on the internet and to tiptoe around their hangups. Trying not to hurt someone is one thing - but appeasing someone by not posting an opinion, etc. or doing what they want so they will be my make-believe "friend" ......nah.....I'm not interested.

I edit my posts, mostly for spelling and grammar but also for statements that are possibly clear to me, but not so all readers.
I do try to always remember that behind every username and avatar is a real person with real feelings so I try not to get too cheeky or confrontational until I know them better and they are more used to me.

People who tease me I am happy to tease back. Ralphy, are your ears burning?

Yes, I delete posts sometimes. Both on here and on Facebook groups I am in. I think a lot of the time my views are quite different from most people's and I just don't want to hear any judgmental flack about it. I grew up hearing a lot of arguing and I don't have to put up with it as an adult. In no way do I think everyone should agree with me but why can't we all have our own views and not judge each other or make sarcastic remarks to or about those who have different ideas than we do? Also a lot of people don't seem to "get" my humor. That is more of a challenge on Facebook than it is here. I will not post anywhere if I don't feel comfortable saying EXACTLY what I think as I feel I have a right to my own views on any subject in the world. Often I just keep my mouth shut, rather than comment. I never post on a religious or political thread. Maybe that will change some day but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't. Thankfully I am married to a guy who pretty wells feels the same way I do about the important stuff. :)

Hya ac...I haven't as yet put that person on ignore because it's not come to the point where they are on my case enough for me to have to do it...they just irritate me with their black v white posts about anything I say and for now I just scroll past their comments. LOL...there's no question this particular person gets annoyed when I ignore them, and that suits me fine..however, I'm not a mouse and I could just let them have both barrels as I would in the RW ..but for the sake of harmony on the forum I don't.:D

Anyhoo..my lovelies, this isn't about me per se...it's just a general question.. :D

SB, I was a moderator for too a a few years so I've met every type there is..and been on small intimate forums and large international ones, and overall I do find that at least on the great WWW and probably true in real life too ..Americans do tend generally to be much more accepting and encouraging to others in their achievements ( and I know you as an individual always are to everyone) . ...but as for the other thing, having been a Mod in the past I'm very aware that one smart comment can cause a huge war, so I'm careful to deal with things for the sake of overall forum harmony..as I said above...but it's still nice to know that Admin is keeping a beady eye on things on here too.. :D

Thank you, but you know what they say about the difference between genius and insanity ...

Besides, as life shows us there is always another fool waiting to take their place in the lineup. :D

I rarely delete something I've written but I do re-read it before posting. I'm not too concerned that someone might disagree with me but I do try to make sure what I say won't be taken the wrong way.

I've been startled by how many of SF posts/comments get misunderstood. I therefore take some pains to write clearly and if something I've composed doesn't pass muster I don't post it.
Yes! I also have a tendency to make jokes and wise-cracks.:( That's ok when you are in a group of people who know you well, otherwise it can easily be taken wrong. So I try to reread everything putting myself in others shoes.

I try to be tactful and careful how I word posts, and re-read and edit them until I feel they are clear. Sometimes if I feel strongly about something, I might be more impulsive about it, then if I think about it I do go back in and edit. One thing I try to do is keep is as short and concise as I can. I'm not concerned about disagreement, but I do avoid hostile posters.
