Prefer Ocean Beaches Or Mountains?

When we lived in So California, we went to Redondo Beach, Newport Beach and Huntington Beach. Not to lay out in the sun, but just to walk around on the pier. Sometimes we celebrate my MIL's birthday at Ruby's Restaurant at the end of Huntington Beach Pier. In Newport Beach, we'd watch the boats come in and go out of the channel and watch the yearly Boat Christmas Parade.

When we lived in central Colorado (Parker), we'd go to the mountains to watch bull and cow elk. Would also beach the powerboat we had there and relax on a local lake beach.

So, what do we prefer now...….mountains, specifically, the Rocky Mountains, but have been to Yellowstone in Wyoming as well. Went to the beach here a few times, but, to us, So Calif. beaches are much, much better.

So, which are you? A beach or mountain person?​
 

I lived in southern Cal in the 70's and was at all those places you mentioned CR, and lived on the westcoast of Florida in the 80's....now living in the Shenandoah Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and much prefer the views and sight seeing of the mountains...
my grown kids have been many times to the places out west, one living in Denver for a few years and they just love it over the beaches....
 
WE have all of those at our second home overseas...Beaches, Mountains and the Mediterranean right on our doorstep, and I love it all.


If I could choose to have only one tho'..hard as the choice would be, I'd choose the mountains...
 

I love both, and would find it hard to choose.

I think lots of older folks would prefer the ocean beaches, as many of them have problems breathing the thinner air in the mountains. But outside of that reason, it's probably just a matter of personal preference.

Believe it or not, when we returned to here in Jacksonville, Florida (elevation 16') from both Loveland, CO (elevation 4,982') and Fort Collins, CO (elevation 5,003'), my wife had a hard time breathing at the much lower elevation here. The humidity here didn't help either, but she did tell me that she was able to breathe much better there than here. Her asthma really kicked in when she got back here, to the point she had to use a inhaler she has for emergency situations. She's fine, but after being in a high elevation, coming back to a lower one really got to her.
 
You reading my mind or something? I was going to post a similar question but I was going to add wooded areas, which of course mountains include. We live less than a mile and a half from "the mountain" and my parents, aunts and uncles used to have a special spot where we picnicked there. I learned just how much I love the ocean as I got older and now am a timeshare owner at a resort that sits right at the Atlantic Ocean. I (we) go frequently and I consider it literally my second home. I don't necessarily have to be on the beach, I just love being at the water. Choosing between the two...I have to say beach. Thing is, we like seeing elk, deer and perhaps a moose and none of those are found at a beach. Our idea of beach lounging now is a beach at a freshwater lake.
 
No favorite, love them both. A drive around the Gaspe Peninsula in Canadian Maritimes will give both at once. Sharp mountains fall into the water with a two lane highway carved into base of mountain and quaint little fishing villages scattered along the coast. It's one of my all time favorite drives.
 
Beach to live, mountains to visit. I love them both, and could live in either, but, the ocean calls me most of all. Whenever I move away from the beach areas, I always dream of going back. At the moment, I live between the two, I have them on either side mountains are closer though.

Next month I will be spending a nice vacation at a house near the beach so, at least
there's that.

Even though I live on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu, I've never been a beach person. But I except the absolute fascination of the ocean at night. There's something about it especially with the waves breaking on the beach that is just hypnotic to me. I remember spending a couple of nights with a friend on her high rise close to the shore line on the the north shore of Oahu and standing on her lanai late at night watching and hearing the ocean waves break in and out in the moonlight and I loved it.
 
I like them both, but I'm not really crazy about being in the hot sun or on sandy beaches, so my preference would be the cool beautiful mountains.

Definitely a beach person. I love everything about the water. I don’t dive anymore, but I surely enjoy fishing and just hangin’ on the beach. I like the west coast beaches of Florida and a few beaches in California. Huntington, Santa Monica and Redondo.

I like a visit visit to the mountains. Living in PA, I don’t have to go far and I always enjoyed flying over the Rockies, especially the flight from Denver down to Salt Lake City.
 
I love them both for different reasons
Since I swim the beach is awesome but for hiking, there’s nothing quite like mountain trails.
Its nice seeing bears in the mountains and other interesting wild animals
 
I like a trip to the beach now and then but would much prefer a cabin by a lake and would love a place like Aunt Bea posted and like her, it better be quiet. I have no right to complain because each week I contribute by using the ride mower and weed wacker. Still I love solitude.
