@hollydolly Bottom photo - What are those ‘handles’ in that tree trunk which has been cut into sections.
they're for Bike chains... :D people can bike into the park but they're not permitted to go through the stiles with a bike so they lock them to the tree trunk... Very often people use them to hook they're dog leads to while they change out of their welly boots ( galoshes) .. or clean off their dogs paws before getting into cars..

Of course, that made sense as soon as you said it.

yes we can literally get 4 seasons in one day... or at least the lighting for it...
In spite of the off again/ on again weather we actually got rain in a garden only twice during our 2008 visit. The rain chased us out of Trebah on our Cornwall jaunt.

But only after allowing us a bright morning in Cornwall where we visited the art museum from whose car pool we enjoyed this sight.

We remained dry as well at the Barbara Hepworth studio and garden in town. Later at Glendurgan it was overcast but dry as we explored the maze and walked to the coast.

Our last stop was at my online friend’s Four Season Garden in Wessells. It drizzled off and on as I walked the garden and enjoyed a wonderful meal Al fresco but they met us with umbrellas for our use and obviously we’re old hands at weathering the weather in their garden.

Back home this evening after a three day break in and around The Eden Valley, Wensleydale and Swaledale.

Lots of photos to edit - but here's one I took on my iPhone this afternoon. Hardraw Force near Hawes in Wensleydale.

Just stunning countryside. Love the textures and the light you got on this.

you're very fortunate to live in Gods' own county...

Lovely pics... Devon and Cornwall are probably our wettest Counties in England.. here in the south East.. probably the least

I was sorry not to get to a well thought of dry garden in that area whose name escapes me now. Probably more of a novelty there. Here it is the norm. Good to know there is more to do on a return trip.

Glorious Sunny day today.. very warm too. I went out without a coat, and I think those wearing coats probably regretted it..

Ancient Market town.. 20 miles from here

Town centre church very much still in use.., dates from Circa 1400 AD

Market Square.. no market on Mondays.. to get some bearings on the picture.. the church is out of shot on the bottom right of this picture..

..and if you look to the far right corner of the picture above.. between the building with the arched windows.. and the white building.. is this pedestrianised road...
