When I was in High School, my old Ford sat outside all winter and I had an electricaly heated rod that took the place of my car's dipstick every night. Kept the oil warm enough for easy starting on below zero F mornings. Same idea but your solution was more elegant.

Yep. I had a '71 Impala...same freezing temps. It was cheap and it WORKED!! :)
