Received a phone call from my Medical Centre.

About 10 days ago I had a C.A.T. scan on my lungs.
The government offered free Lung Cancer screening for people who previously smoked.
I smoked a packet of cigarettes a day for 30 years.
Stopped at least a decade ago.
We agreed that I will not need to worry about it unless there was an issue in which case I would be contacted.
That contact has now occurred, and I have an appointment for Thursday morning.

Low risk of cancer is good. Did they prescribe a treatment plan and/or suggest a lifestyle change (eg: eating healthier, exercise, enough rest, etc)? Do you have trouble breathing at all?
I do not have any trouble breathing at all.
I asked for the screening because I developed a slightly phlegmy cough when I thought I should not have one.
I received these results via email.
Doctor appointment tomorrow.

I'm glad you aren't having trouble B. My son has been coughing for over a week and will not go to the doctor. He's been using home remedies. He hasn't coughed as much the last couple of days and said some of the coughing was on purpose to bring up the phlem. I wish he'd get checked out like you did. Take good care.

You could mention my experience to your son.
I rarely go to the doctor, putting things off.
Remember my chest pains from three months ago?
These results show it could have been a minor heart attack.
I will be asking the doc if that might have been the case.

Please keep us posted B!

Next step in my health care is for a CT Coronary Angiogram.
Appointment on the 13th of January.

The booking was difficult to understand. The lady on the phone had a thick accent which I had real trouble understanding.
I had to ask her to repeat herself a few times though we got there in the end.

Early detection is your friend. Early treatment is even better.

Frightening, Bretrick, I hope that it is nothing serious.

Years ago, I had a similar call, after lung tests and x-rays,
when I arrived I was, straight in to the consultant's office,
his greeting, "Good morning, you should be dead, according
to the x-ray", he showed me the picture on the computer,
the bottom of the right lung was black, (I did smoke then).

I said, "it is your computer that is wrong, have you looked
at the slide", he admitted that he hadn't, so it was put on
to the light box and there was nothing there, "Phew", I was
very lucky and I hope that, in your case, it is his system that
is faulty.

Mike.

Best to know what your coronary situation is so treatment can begin before there's and serious consequences.

Wow, that was terrible on his part.
Glad you got it straightened out quickly, Mike.

I'm glad you'd told us, much earlier in this thread, that you're not a worrier,
@Bretrick

Therefore, we can support you without our over worrying about you over worrying. ☺️

You were smart to accept their original offer of a test.
It's also good that they don't have long delays for follow ups.

Thank you. I instigated the initial test because I had a cough I thought I should not have.
My thinking was, with the years of smoking it might the worthwhile having a look at my lungs.
Good decision.

Out of curiosity I roughly added the amount of cigarettes I have smoked over 30+ years.
I know when I started, I was buying packets of 20 cigarettes. Those packets changed to 25 cigarettes.
So, let's average it out to 22 cigarettes a day for 30 years. Might have been 35 years.
For simplicity I will keep it at 30 years.
22 ciggies a day, 365 days a year for 30 years comes to a total of 240,000 cigarettes.

Your appointment is on my granddaughter's birthday. :) Will be sending out positive vibes for a good outcome B.
Re: bolded quote. I've had to deal with a few customer service reps with heavy accents. It can be quite annoying.
