Reflections of My Life

Oh no, I won't be on my knees no matter what! For one thing I could never kneel on them. 2nd thing is I cannot get down on the floor. So I am buying those long handled brushes or sponges to clean with. The bottom of the toilet, the shower floor & the bottom of the refrigerator are the main jobs I need to figure out.
Kat i keep my shower floor/tiles clean without even having to touch it.
Mix one cup dawn detergent with one cup of vinegar in a spray bottle . Spray the shower and wait two hours . The soap scum can just be rinsed away .
It really works!
(It does smell like vinegar for awhile but for me that’s a small price to pay.)

You’ve got me on a rolllll now🤣
For close to the floor jobs inside the house i now use one of my favorite garden tools, a garden hopper/seat on wheels. Pardon me if this is too much info lol but what i do is straddle the seat and then simply sit down on it & do whatever low level chores need to be done. One of the numerous great beauties of it is i can use my hands on the top of the seat itself to help push myself back up.
The height of my hopper/seat is 12.5 inches……don’t know if your knees would permit you to go up & down to that height?

Maybe you could sit in a chair, then scoot off the chair onto a low stool, then you could reach the floor to get the difficult corners etc.

That sounds right up my alley! I already use vinegar and Dawn for cleaning my bunny's cage.

Welcome to July! The month of hot temperatures and thunderstorms in NY state. As long as my air conditioner doesn't conk out on me I will be fine. I get hot and sticky just thinking about it. I really feel sorry the people in my building who do not have an air conditioner. They sit outside most of the day so I guess it is cooler out there then in their apartments.

I have not even written up my budget sheet for this month yet. So will do that this morning. I am getting ready to make four batches of keto replacement meal shakes to put in the freezer. I won't have any ice cream today since I didn't get any made. It has to sit at least 24 hours in the freezer before making it into ice cream in the Ninja Creami. I do have some plain water popsicles I made in the freezer. I want to replace them with lemonade electrolytes so should do that today too.

You know animals have the right idea when it is hot. They do not move. They sleep. Like this morning, Rabbit is more active (and hungry) now but as it gets later he will just sleep. All day. Sometimes I make a noise to make sure he is still alive. He sleeps so still. I could never sleep on a hot day even with the air conditioning going. I go to sleep early so am ready to go after my coffee in the morning.

I love this lady! She says what she thinks!

.. and if you keep a spray bottle of water by your side, you can spray yourself to cool down.

I resisted using silicone in the kitchen for a long time. One time I bought a silicone tray liner that was for cooking bacon in the oven. I ended up throwing it out. It was a nightmare to clean the bacon grease off it. Then I had to put up with the silicone gasket on the Instant Pot. It is one of the most asked questions about using the Instant Pot, "how do you get the odor off the gasket?" Most times they say you just have to live with it. Well, you do. But I always hang and store the gaskets (I have 2) on the back of the door so they are always in the air. It helps and I never notice the odor now.

I have some other silicone products that I use rarely. The muffin tray is one. I use it to make egg bites and the silicone smell is not strong on those. But the ones I make popsicles from are a problem. The smell is from their manufacturing and it never goes away. Maybe because they go in the freezer and not an oven? Not sure. I could not even eat a popsicle from it today due to that smell.

So I was remembering how my mom would make us popsicles in Dixie Cups. But I can't remember how she got the sticks to stand up in the middle of the cup. I see somebody had a video using tape around the stick kinda. It is not like I really need popsicles. I put my electrolytes in them with the lemonade and thought it would be nice to have some as a popsicle.

I got some stuff done this morning and now it is time to clean the bunny's cage.

It is funny to me how I can be living in a city for seven years now and am now familiar with what I call "city noise". Early morning I know the sound of the garbage truck. It is very loud and comes very early. I imagine people on that side of our building might get woke up by it. It is not just a quick noise. It goes on and on for about 5 minutes or so. But we want them to come here and empty our dumpster. Noises don't bother me especially as long as I know what it is. When I first moved here I had to jump up out of bed (as if I could do that now) to see what it was.

Then there is the sound of the delivery trucks as they back into the parking lot behind the stores. The back of the stores and parking lot faces the back of our building where my apartment is. I know their sounds too. For some reason I like that sound. Reminds me of when I was on the road with my husband when he drove an over-the-road truck. That is a good memory so I find it a pleasant sound.

The newest sound, for the last couple of years is when the couple who comes here every day on their electric bikes turn off the bikes. It is a quick toot of the horn. The woman is the daughter-in-law and aide for the woman who lives on the 3rd floor. She takes good care of her! Her husband is an aide also for someone else in the building. So that is an every day sound no matter what the weather is.

I suppose that is how it is for Rabbit. His ears are very keen and are moving almost constantly. Even when sleeping his ears are pointed in different directions. If a noise sounds one of his ears will turn toward that direction. Rabbit ears are like horse ears. Horses do that too.

Enough of my rambling for now...........back to my morning coffee.

I just straighten the popsicle sticks as they go through the process of freezing

Hubby and I are looking for a place to retire to --- he likes Arizona... I'm afraid it will be too hot.

Katlupe, I too depend on the air conditioner all summer long!

The older I get, the more the heat just zaps the life out of me.

Today was my errand day. You know how I usually dread it? I am usually so worn out afterwards I can't do a thing. Well, today was different. Sonny had to come early this morning (because he has a race to set up for so had to be done by afternoon) and it made a difference. Got everything done and bought. Shopped at Walmart and I was dreading it because I figured it would be packed. Nope. Pretty empty actually.

I was home around eleven and even vacuum packed the meat already. What a difference the time made. I am just better at doing stuff in the morning than afternoons. Regardless of the weather.

New people moving in on my floor. They had a U-Haul truck here earlier when Sonny and I was leaving. When we came back they had everything out of the truck and on the lawn. Probably so they could get the truck back. Luckily it did not rain even though it is in our forecast. They are still moving stuff up here. Elevator is busy.

I'm glad to hear that Sonny came and you did your shopping early, so you were more able to do more with the groceries, etc, afterwards.
Something like that changes the whole day and evening, for sure.
🙂

Happy Fourth of July! And to everyone not American please celebrate our holiday with us! If you were here I am sure someone would invite you to join in their celebration. I do not celebrate this holiday anymore or at least not in the manner I was used to. It was always a day of families and/or friends getting together outside for cook-outs and lots of fun. Swimming when possible too. I was never big on the fireworks and even less when I got my dog, Nikita. She hated them.

Now my holiday is going to be spent in my cool apartment (hot weather keeps me inside). I got two new adult coloring books and three packages of new glitter gel pens a couple days ago. That will keep me busy and I love coloring while watching videos or listening to music. Plus I need to keep my feet up as much as possible. The hot weather always makes them worse.

I have recently subscribed to a few new YT channels so am binge watching those too. I like to go back to watch their oldest videos first. My interests have changed so don't watch many of the keto/low carb ones so much now. I feel like I know what I need to know. Everybody is unique and what works for me (and whatever my health conditions or genetics are) may not work for someone else. So I don't always agree with the channel creators.

No cook out for me but I did buy a juicy ribeye steak for later. Cooking in the Nuwave oven keeps my kitchen cool no matter how hot it gets.

Every year since I moved here, Norwich had a big (long) fireworks at the fairgrounds. This year they had none because they had no one who sponsored it. The city does not buy the fireworks. Expensive. I heard a few set off last night but probably by individuals. So didn't have to worry about my bunny getting scared.

After coffee time is over I will get to work on paying bills. I usually do it on the 3rd but doing it today instead. Then have some projects to do.

Yesterday I found out a guy I went to school with (K-4th grade) died earlier this year. I went to his FB page and saw he had not posted on since February. So checked his wife's and she hadn't either. I was thinking he hadn't sent me a birthday greeting either. He always did ever since I first got on FB.

I asked Sonny if he had gotten a birthday greeting from him. He hadn't. So he asked someone else and found out he had died. I am so sad about this. I hadn't seen him in person since long ago but we talked online. When I was in first grade I remember him bringing me those white jelly nougats candy to school.

Just got in from going for a short walk. I walked up the block and back. Then sat in the sun for about 15 minutes. I would have stayed longer but a stinky cigarette smoker got out of his car and immediately lit up. I was not sitting out back where the lawn is due to smokers. I was by the front of the building at the side where the parking lot is. They have to hog every bit of outdoor space! It is not fair.

It is sad that no matter where I go outside there is always someone smoking. Anyway, I hurried to get inside the building and back home. It really does affect me so I am not whining about something just to complain.

The new lady that moved in the other day got locked out of her apartment that evening. Her friends pounded on the door trying to force it open. Finally they called the police and they came right over. Their master key would not work on her lock for some reason. So they broke the door down! What a loud noise that was! I thought it was a plane hitting our building! We have no maintenance to call if he is not here working.

Now time to make my first meal of the day. Scrambled eggs with pepperoni and cheese.

Hello katlupe,
I'm glad you got outdoors and took the short walk, and enjoyed the sunshine for a few minutes, today.

It is truly difficult how many and how much, people are still smoking nowadays, and in every possible spot, disregarding the effect on others. 😒👎
Especially so close to your building.
It's your home too, after all. 🤨

That was also disturbing for you, that your new neighbor to have that episode. 🙄
Terrible that there isn't a good system there, for lockouts.
