Reflections of My Life

When Sonny and I got here today, I got out of the car and was face to face with one of the little rabbits who live in the backyard. He/she stayed still, as rabbits do. But he knew I saw him because we were making eye contact. Then I had to shut the car door to get going because it was starting to sprinkle. He took off like shot then. I am so happy to have a rabbit family living out there! Not much wildlife when you live downtown unless you count the two legged ones. :)
 

My hair appointment is today and I have to walk to it. Not that far, about 2 blocks. But my legs and feet have been swelled up and I really need to spend a day just sitting with them up. Never able to spend that much time during the day not doing anything. I am going to work on it though not today.

I have 3 jobs that I must do sometime today. Make 4 batches of keto replacement shakes to put in the freezer for keto ice cream. Separate the spring mix from the spinach they sneak into the packaged spring mix (for Rabbit). Vacuum pack the meat I bought yesterday at the store. I got some great markdowns on steaks and need to get them in the freezer. I can't use the vacuum packer this early in the morning because it will wake everyone up.
 
I came back from my hair appointment a couple of hours ago. Vacuum packed the meat immediately and got it in the freezer. Kept one steak out for supper. Then sat in the recliner with my feet up and colored for a bit. Now in the process of making the shakes for ice cream. As soon as I am done with that I will start cooking supper.

When making the salted caramel shake I usually add a teaspoon of pumpkin spice and it is so good. Today I decided to add maple extract and Maple Pecan Bourbon Skinny Syrup (sugar free) instead. I love that syrup and sometimes use it in a cold coffee or whipped heavy cream. I think this will be good.
 

I see the advantage of actually doing your own shopping in person. When I order meat from Walmart and they deliver it I get what I order. Thursday when I shopped there in person I got four packages of steaks that were all marked down quite a bit. Just before I moved on from the ground beef to the steaks (at the meat cooler) a woman in front of me with a huge cart of food picked up two packages of steaks that were marked down. Those were ribeyes and I would have liked them. Late afternoon, everything was marked down.

Probably will be a quiet Saturday since the county fair is going on down at the fairgrounds. Not for me of course. I don't like to do anything outside in the summer anymore. Just too uncomfortable. I will go out to the dumpster this morning and I might sit outside for a little bit. Not for long. Today, no big plans. A day of rest.

It is easy to find things to complain about but I am doing my best to remind myself to find things to be happy or thankful about. I have a lot more to be thankful for than to be complaining about. I look at pictures of my old house and old life and think how I miss it..........UNTIL I remind myself how I felt living there the last few years. Miserable. Here I have everything I wanted and I may not have a lot of money but I am content.

I keep hoping to see Lewkat back. Has anyone had any news from her? She has not been here since July 9th. 🙏 🙏 🙏
 
I like to pick out my meat as well. I generally don't buy at Walmart because it is pricey. I have a Kroger, Albertsons and Tom Thumb nearby. I shop their loss leaders for meat most of the time. Albertsons seems to have the best markdowned prices. They tend to do theirs early AM, so I go about 7 to 8 in the morning. I tend to overbuy as long as it is a good deal and I have the freezer space.

I went to Walmart after the doctor today, spent $79 but the only meat I bought was some cheap Bar S hotdogs for the pups. I also picked them up some strawberries. I had bought some a few weeks ago for me but I did not like the texture. I cut up one and gave to the pups and they loved it. About 17 of that was for Voltaren the doctor said to use on the hip bursitis. I was surprised but it really does help with the pain.

I wanted to get some fresh green beans, for me to cook but to have extra for the dogs. They like them raw. Not a fresh green bean in the store. If I feel better later today I may go to the produce stand to those and some purple hull peas. If the cantaloupe looks and smells good I will grab one for the neighbor

I cannot deal with the heat either. I believe it is due to having Lymphedema. They always say not to get overheated.

Walmart is the cheapest around here for meat and most other things too. I have Aldi's and two other grocery stores as well but Walmart is still the cheapest. I use the delivery services most of the time and am really happy with them. But you don't get the marked down meat with those. They are trying to get you the best choice so probably marked downs are not considered best since you need to use them soon.

When you order online can you add special instructions, like a preference for yellow sticker manager markdowns? 🤔
 
I use Walmart delivery and for the most part I'm happy with the prices and the results of the deliveries. I hated Dillons/Kroger. Never got half my stuff cuz they were always out of everything. Plus some of the delivery people were incredibly rude. Some prices at any store are a bit much for certain items. I get as much generic or Walmart brands as I can.

I have Walmart Delivery and Instacart (for the other stores) both. Walmart is where I do most of my shopping. Since I eat keto, I buy mostly meat and dairy and their prices are usually the best.
 
Our Dillons/Kroger store uses Instacart but, I just didn't care for it.

If Lew was having health problems maybe something happened. She's in her 90s so it's possible. Maybe she fell and broke something and is in rehab or something. We'll just have to wait and see if she returns. :)

Yesterday and the day before, I wore the compression stockings all day. I will wear them again today. It is just that they give me instant relief as soon as I get them on. I also spent a couple of hours (one hour at a time) in the recliner with my feet up during the day. As much as I hate doing that I think I need to make the effort to do so.

This morning I need to walk out to the dumpster and will scope out the laundry room. If it is empty I will come back with my laundry. If it is busy I will wait and check on it later.

I had ordered a touch top plastic garbage can from Amazon and it came yesterday. It is taller than my old can which was not really a garbage can but a small storage container with a tight fitting lid. The lid had become too hard for me to get open. If I had something in my hands to put in I had to put it down to open the can first. Easy for me to use now. I should have done this a long time ago.

One thing I have been doing that drives me crazy is putting my dirty laundry in the laundry basket waiting for laundry day. It piles up in there and I set the laundry basket on the shower chair in the shower. So it is something I have to move just to take a shower. Most times I do that at night so I can plan to take a shower in the morning. In this hot weather though, I want to take a cool shower during the day and don't because of having to move that.

Today I ordered a cheap plastic hamper from Walmart. It will be delivered tomorrow. Going to stick it in the corner by the vanity so it is out of the way. Laundry hampers on Amazon are too much money for me! This one was less than ten dollars and my UHC card paid for it. I didn't expect that. I feel good when I make changes in my apartment. Especially making life here easier for me now.

Monday morning always gives me that positive feeling not only for the day, but for the whole week. It does not always last but I start out good. I could be miserable due to the weather but I try not to think about it. Like Peter Pan said, "Think happy thoughts." I try. So today is an easy day for me. My new laundry hamper is being delivered today so that is the only reason I have to go downstairs today. Looking forward to getting that.

I can't say how many times I have hit my head on the freezer handle when I am getting something out of the refrigerator. You would think I could remember it is there and sticks out a bit.

Our new manager that was in training two weeks ago has already quit the job! What does that tell you? Too much complicated work for one person! To have to manage one building is bad enough, but TWO? And for them to be neglected right from the beginning. I wonder what is going to happen now? My opinion is that it is a thankless job. A ton of paperwork and then tenants lining up outside the office door with a ton of their own problems for the manager to solve. Everyone constantly complaining about the managers and not caring that she might be overworked and can't catch or keep up.
 
Yesterday there was a big ruckus out back between a bunch of people. Not sure what their problem was but they sure made a lot of noise. Yelling at each other. Oh, the excitement of living in a senior living apartment building! :ROFLMAO:

Yesterday, I organized the closet in the bathroom. Got the new hamper and I love it. It made a big difference with the laundry waiting to be washed in that instead of taking up the space in the laundry basket. In the corner where the water dispenser was. I told Sonny to take the mobility chair because I am not going to be using it. Just don't trust going out on it and it breaking down. That is a problem with them. It can be something simple but still I would be stranded and not want to leave it on the street.

Since I started wearing the compression stockings again my swelling is down. Even though it has been hot weather. I think right now I am going to soak my feet in some cold water and then put the stockings on. It is 54 degrees outside but I am hot in here. I don't usually turn my air conditioner on until it is 63 degrees. ....................I just did it (soak my feet) and it felt great! Using cold water my feet heat the water up pretty quick. :)

Glad you're using your compression stockings again I didn't know you had stopped.

I understand your concerns about your mobility chair especially in winter but are you sure you really want to? I don't know, maybe you could hide it in the corner and put the laundry basket over it so you won't see it?🤣🤣 Well you always make good decisions for yourself. You know what you're doing.

They do work! I took a break from mine because I thought they were making an indention on my shins on both legs. Well I took a few weeks off from them and the indention did not go away. But the swelling in my feet and calves got worse. Back to wearing them three days now and what an improvement! I won't take a break from them again.
