Reflections of My Life

Have you ever read A land remember by Patrick Smith? Excellent book of a family trying to start a new life in old underdeveloped Florida.
That is the one I just finished! I could not put it down. He is such a good writer. It reminded me of the area I lived in when I was a child. Of course, it was in the 60's so was developed but not like it is now.

It is so weird, I am going through all my files. Right now I am onto the Social Security ones. One is for regular SS which I started getting in 2014 when I turned 62. The other file is for SSI which I started getting when I moved here in 2018 because my income was so low. In 2021 SS sent me a direct deposit payment of $12. because they said one of my first checks was short and they owed that to me. Okay, thank you.

Then in 2021, dated one day after I received that letter from SS, SSI sends me a letter that they are cutting my check from them because SS sent me that $12. ..............I was not even getting SSI in 2014. But I had to pay it back. Then I get another letter from them a couple of weeks later saying they are increasing my future checks because SS hadn't changed my check amount. Plus they said if any part of that overpayment of $12. had been saved I have to report it to them because I cannot have more than $2000. in my account!

Oh yeah, I saved that $12 and added to my stash of $2000. People who work in these government jobs are so in another world. I see it in all the paperwork they send that is unnecessary. They waste money on pages of papers that nobody even looks at. Sometimes they send two copiess of everything, one in Spanish as well as English. They never return phone calls so no sense leaving messages. Good thing I live close to the county office building but there is talk of moving it in the future while they demolish it and rebuild it.

It sounds very similar to my Medicare Advantage Plan, they waste more time and money on unnecessary nonsense instead of cutting expenses and focusing on customer service and patient care.

One thing they have been doing lately if you get SNAP is sending out notifications that we are qualified to use SNAP in certain restaurants. Of course, none of the restaurants in my area are on the list. Not that I would be using it that way because I rarely get restaurant food. But this is another example of useless paperwork. If everyone in my city that gets SNAP gets these notices. Two pages and an envelope sent out at least once a year or more.

Kat, I looked into that, because it was so hard to believe that they were giving the "go ahead" on restaurant food! Nope, it's a discount of 10% and there are very, very few places that will honor it.

My water delivery did not come yesterday. I checked his website and yes, my delivery date was the 19th. Never came. This morning I checked his website and the delivery date is changed to today. So I put my empties back outside my door and will expect him today. Must have had some kind of problem yesterday. He bought the company a year ago and has remained the driver on this route so could be something came up. Glad to know he will be here today.

Yesterday on the scanner nerds for Norwich, someone said there was a huge police presence downtown (where I live  ). Others said the parking lot was full at the state police barracks too. I never heard any sirens. So don't know what was going on. I just tried to go to that group on FB but of course, that page would not load. Nor my newsfeed page either. Just my timeline. At least whatever it was it did not affect us here.

My recertification is being worked on now. I met with the manager yesterday and got most of the paper work in to her. She was very nice yesterday. I think maybe when she is not feeling well, (she has Lupus) she is not as friendly. Probably hurting. She also told me she got the late fees taken off Jeff's account. Since it was the previous manager's fault. She lost that money order. I will take care of it on the 3rd when I get his check.

Raining today so not walking out to the dumpster. I used to have big full bags of garbage every day due to Rabbit. Now I go about three days or more with light bags that are not even full. Since I eat mostly meat and have empty packages that smell if I put them in the garbage can. I put them in a plastic bag (the kind you get at the grocery store for meat or produce) and put that in the freezer. Then when I take the garbage out I put them in the bag. It has been working out good this way.

I do the same with grease but in a can in the refrigerator. I have been keeping my sink drain grease free so I have no trouble with it. The maintenance man told me that is the thing he has to fix more than anything. Clogged drains and toilets.

i hate low flow stuff like showers and toilets. there's a problem where the plumbing goes from the house to the yard so, if i flush toilet paper the line plugs up. backs up in the toilet and into the tub. so i have no choice but to put my dirty toilet paper in the trash. i hate it but it's either that or clogged toilet all the time. i don't know why he doesn't just get the dumb line fixed.

A plumber told me that the best way to avoid clogged sinks is use enough dish soap when you wash dishes. Yes, we still hand wash as the dishwasher hasn't worked in a decade.
I hand wash my dishes also. I have done so most of my life. I wouldn't want to give up the space in my kitchen for a dish washer. Grease is a big drain clogger.

I don't know what is wrong with me. 2nd time lately of mixing up my good morning post with the coffee post. I fixed it but don't know what that is sign of.
Those kind of mysterious happenings are occurring to me also. I know I am in an accelerated decomposition, including brain functioning, at times, so no worries. It is the fun part of growing old, I don't care if I do stupid little things. It comes with the territory. :)

I just finished my laundry. It was quiet and I had the place to myself again. Sunday is a good day to do it. Got my vanity stool cushion out of my storage locker so I can put it back on the stool. I have set up my older computer on the middle part of the vanity and think I can use it for writing and photos. There is nothing wrong with it. Larry fixed it.

I think I would do more than the internet if I was not distracted by it. At my house I would write stories or document my life and make my own memes because we didn't always have internet. Back then we did not even have the option of YouTube because Hughes.Net was our internet provider. Could not do much there until Frontier came calling. The workman told me to log into YouTube and I thought I died and went to heaven! I was so excited. He didn't know what to think.

I was writing a story about a couple who lived in my area in the 1830's. I still work on it from time to time. The other story..........which is really a period in my own life when I worked as a bartender in an exotic dancer bar. That one I called, Last Call, because it is really about my job there and my relationships with various people. I would like to get back to work on that before I forget all memories.

Now after this glass of lemonade I have to start cooking my supper. Just hot Italian sausages tonight. Wanted something quick. I don't know why laundry knocks me out so much. All I do is sit and wait. The folding and putting away is what does it.

We went to Costco this afternoon where we enjoyed Polish sausage samples. My husband wanted to buy some for me but I don't need the salt so I had to pass on them.
We have two space heaters; one for the living room and my husband has one in his computer room. They really make a difference but the best part is that we got them used at ReStore for $25/ea which are usually over $125 at Home Depo - much better quality than the ones Walmart sells.
Stay warm and take care of yourself as the new blizzard headed towards you.

One thing about salt is if you follow a low carb diet (keto, ketovore, carnivore or lion) you need more salt. Not eating processed foods and making your own means you are not getting that salt you used to get. It is now a known fact that salt does not cause all those health issues we were taught it did. I have the book, The Salt Fix and I read awhile back. Now it is more popular than ever as low carbs/keto have become more accepted by the medical community. If you question it, search for "Dr. Ken Berry Salt" on YT. He lists all his resources always in his description notes.

Today has turned out to be fairly nice. No snow yet. Sun is out. I unblocked one of my windows to get some sun for my plants. My two African Violets are blooming. I am glad I did not get rid of them. I found a place for them all winter not far from the heater. On my computer table so I can look at them all day long.

I definitely need to rest up since yesterday. Laundry, you know. So just staying in and doing this and that around here. Sun just got real bright!

Lotsa snow around these here parts. 15 inches deep and still falling.
⛄️
Wish I could go out and play. Come home and have some hot chocolate with my grandson. Go tubing or sledding. Wouldn’t say no to a toboggan!
It won’t happen again. The nearest thing is opening a window
