Automatic Registration Update
Starting December 18, 2026, most men ages 18-25 will be automatically registered using federal databases, including Social Security records. Men will be notified of their registration and can provide updated contact information or request removal if incorrectly registered usmilitary.org.Consequences of Not Registering
Failure to register is a federal felony, which can result in fines or imprisonment. It may also affect eligibility for federal jobs, student financial aid, and U.S. citizenship for immigrantsImportant Notes
- Registration does not mean automatic induction into the military. In the event of a draft, men would be called based on a lottery system and evaluated for fitness before service
