A Quiet American

So apparently one deer paid a visit last night; plant in foreground had long, slender leaves of a day lily yesterday. Now it’s down to the nubbins. Arrrggggg
I wish no animal harm but is there something effective to deter the critters? I’d really like to enjoy my flowers this year.
I have a wire cage around my Oak-leaf hydrangea but I can’t do thee addy for all the plants. I want a garden, not a detention camp!
