This restaurant gives some of its customers a 15% discount for praying publically before eating their meals there. Once some people got word of this, they were angered, because the religious customers were being rewarded and others weren't.

From what I hear, once the restaurant owner became aware of all the people who did not agree with their informal discount policy, they changed their tune to say 'meditation' or 'quiet thought time' instead of prayer as they first said. Restaurants are places for eating meals. If some patrons want to "say Grace", that's fine with me.

But I would never, EVER patronize an establishment that rewarded patrons for praying.

Owner must be some kind of religious nut.

I agree with you Falcon. With all the restaurants around, I would avoid that on at all costs. What could their objective possibly be?

Totally unbiblical. It rewards hypocrisy and encourages humbuggery.

Matthew 6:5
When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.…

Maybe the food is so bad, you need to pray.

Maybe the owners figure those who pray might be less likely to get sick & sue them!!!

Hence the discount. ;)

Heck, if the discount saved me a few bucks, I'd roll around on the floor & speak in tongues. :playful:

It's a secret group prayer. The restaurant owner is probably also praying the customer doesn't get sick and sue them.

Dame Warrigal you are among the few religious people who actually know what's in the bible. Most people I know who claim to be deeply religious ( including my daughter) like to showcase their religion for everyone to see.

I go to restaurants to enjoy a meal with my people and pay good money for it.
I dont need people next to me praying, breastfeeding, talking loud etc, etc.

You wanna pray then go to a church and light a candle.

I find American religiosity very different to what I have always known. To some extent it has been imported to this country but I've always found it very offputting.

Years ago when hubby and I were travelling around your western states for a couple of weeks, we visited Las Vegas and lined up at one of the casinos for a cheap breakfast. Once inside we were astounded to witness a table of charismatic Christians singing hymns and choruses. Over here, if that were to happen the management would tell them to desist or leave but no-one seemed to bat an eyelid. It did seem as though we had touched down on an alien planet.

Am cracking up here. Next they'll ask who pays for your birth control before they your order, & if it's your employer, they won't serve you. Am going to remember that Matthew 6:5 citation! Thanks!
