Right and wrong and truth.

Knowing the meaning of right and wrong is subjective to social behavior and practice. Since the beginning of time humans have been told what is right and what is wrong by church and government.

What is truth in terms of morality and immorality? Can truth be described as right or wrong or either right or wrong? When I was growing up all retail stores including grocery stores were closed on Sunday. Alcohol sales were prohibited on Sunday and the legal age to buy alcohol was 18. Mandatory conviction and jail term for possession of marijuana.

It's not possible to intellectually understand the criteria of right and wrong because of the field of action.
Karma is so vast, unlimited and and complex and the vision of the human mind is restricted.
This is, of course, unless the mind is raised to the level of cosmic consciousness, in which every thought,
word and action are in the right.
Until this occurs, the only fallback known are the scriptures of your own religion, and your own consciousness.

I don't know about anyone else but I was taught right and wrong by my parents and extended family. My children got the message from me.

As a diversion - the concept of right and wrong is largely secular. Religion, especially Christianity, explores the concept of good and evil. There is some overlap but they are also rather different ideas. A third overlapping concept that is different again is legal and illegal. Some actions that are legal are neither right nor good.

Where would one’s conscience get its information on what is right and wrong? How do we know that the still, small voice is telling us the truth about right and wrong? Mark Twain makes the point brilliantly in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huckleberry’s conscience tells him that he should turn Jim in. After all, Jim is a slave. Therefore, he belongs to someone else. Huckleberry berates himself because he helped him go free. His conscience tells him that was wrong, by helping Jim go free, he’s deprived Miss Watson of her property. Not only that, but Jim talks about trying to free his own children. Huck’s conscience bothers him about that. After all, Huck says, those children belong to a man he doesn’t even know.

What we know, and what Mark Twain relies on us knowing, is that Huckleberry’s conscience is not innate and is not infallible. That small voice inside is merely an echo of his acculturation, complete with an approval of slavery typical of that time and place. In the end, Huckleberry Finn defies his conscience and decides not to turn Jim in.

I have heard it said that truth can be seen in multitude shades of grey. I don't go along with that, to me the truth is the truth, adding another dimension doesn't take away the 'true'facts.

I was taught by my parents and grandparents about right and wrong.
The rest was taught via nuns in a private school and then by the law.
