RIP Dame Vera

Dame Vera Margaret Lynn CH DBE OStJ, has died today at the
age of 103 years.

She was a really nice person, though I never met her I thought
that I knew her because of he so many appearances on TV over
the years, I always tried to watch.

I hope that she is given a State Funeral, she is entitled to one
and she did more for this country, than any politician, by lifting
the people out of sadness, just for a moment or two, with her
song, "We'll meet Again", it still cheers them up now-a-days,
even me.

LOL...sorry Mike, I don't mean to be controversial but I don't think she deserves a state funeral.. for singing during the war. There's lots of people who entertained the troops though the war both sides of the pond that got no recognition at all

She lived a long time, in good health, I think that's her reward...

Amazing tho' as I said on @Ferocious 's thread, to think she was born before my mother & father, lived through 20 prime ministers.. 2 world wars, and 100 decades of fashion... may she R.I.P

Not many commanded the respect that this lady received and it was truly deserved.

A wonderful lady and the forces sweetheart, RIP Vera.

To be honest, I had never heard of her until Pink Floyd released "The Wall" so discovered her voice that way.

45 years ago she visited a hospital I worked in as a Staff Nurse. She was lovely, had time to speak to everyone, didn't rush and sang We'll meet again' when asked to. I was surprised how small she was. I always imagined her as tall

I wasn't the only who thought that she should have had
a State Funeral, but for reasons previously mentioned it
wasn't to be.

But, some strings were pulled and some rules were bent
and she got a respectful service, troops from most of the
forces were there, marching with the cortege, they even
carried her into the church, on the way they stopped in
the main street of her village and two spitfires did a flypast.

So all in all great respect was show to a lovely person.
