Singer Roberta Flack has died at the age of 88.

The 1970s R&B legend was known for hits like Killing Me Softly With His Song and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

Her representatives announced her passing but did not offer a cause of death, as reported by Variety.

She died peacefully surrounded by her family. Roberta broke boundaries and records. She was also a proud educator.'

Flack announced in 2022 she had ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and could no longer sing.

The Grammy-winning singer and pianist's intimate vocal and musical style made her one of the top recordings artists of the 1970s and an influential performer long after.

and one of those songs was gifted to her many eons ago by a local writer and singer of UK folk songs - can't remember which one and he didn't charge a dime! oh yes "the first time ever I saw your face" - written by Ewan MacColl for his then USA lover Peggy Seeger who put it on a small tape I think and then gave the rights to Roberta who made money from it but I think Ewan got plenty of royalties - funny how the world turns heh - Ewan and Peggy were folk musicians - real deep in the mud folk!

My husband played The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face on the flute at our wedding. I was just listening to it on YouTube two days ago.

I'm so sorry to hear she died from such a terrible disease.
This was always one of the most beautiful songs that I had ever heard. R.I.P.
