Rough time at New Job

I was on my second day of training, yesterday the lady training me tried to push me off on another employee asking her to train me, she said No. The 2 hours I was with her she didn't show me anything. I was put with someone else, they had something else for her to do. I learned more from the second lady in a half hour. So I was put with a teenager to train with, I had only a couple of hours training from yesterday. This teenager told me to move it faster. When things got slow I had a calm talk with her asking her how old are you? I told her how old I was, that I can't move as good as I use to and don't process things as fast, this is as good as it's going to get. People forget that they were once trained too, yea training isn't fun, they should tell the supervisor they don't want to train? Only people who have patience should train, Not a teenager, most don't like themselves. Feel like I'm going to have to figure things out myself? When I asked for help? I get these looks like I'm bothering them? I feel like this is an uphill Battle? Don't want to complain? Or should I say something?

Cashiering, it hasn't been easy to get hired. I've been told to my face that I couldn't do jobs in the past. Going to send out more resumes. I'm off for a few days I'll be thinking about this? Thanks for writing

Patnono, don't give up, if you do, you make them right
and you are better than they are, calm down and listen.

Good Luck.

Mike.

Thanks for your support Mike, I'm calm just feeling a little self defeated. I don't want to give up, its just seems that the people who work there don't want you to succeed? The first woman that was training me "NOT" was older like me and has had the same job experience i'd been having, you'd think she'd have some EMPATHY for what I'm going through? I'm off for 3 days, going to send out some more resumes. I know I can do it, I just need the time and patience to do it. I don't Get people these days. I use to train new employees at my last job and went beyond to make sure they were successful in learning the job, it was much harder job than what I have now.

2 days of training and off 3 days????
Actually, I was there total 8 hours in the 2 days, was only given 4 hours of training, then left on my own for the other 4 hours. I don't like the 3 days off in a way, cause I'm physically exhausted, but then I'll forget what I learned?

its always a bit stressful' but hang in there - you will be surprised of what u can do '
dont forget the ones training u -had to learn also '

Patnono...this is very diffcult for you, I can tell, and their methods of training seem to leave a lot to be desired but you had a very hard time getting that job in the first place , so if you can keep going, and keep applying for other postions at least you will be gaining experience while you're job searching!! It sounds like you don't have to work many hours, so I'm sure you can be strong and just carry on until something better comes along. Good luck!!

Somehow I get the impression that the outfit you work for will be happy if you just show up , sober.. Hey, if the money's okay, and you're not dragging when you get home, give it awhile. Chances are with that outfit, you'll be Asst. Manager in a year or two.

Just a helpful suggestion please make sure you write down in a small notepad what they tell you it shows that you care and it helps you to review what you have been taught I hope that helps

Try not to be too hard on yourself. :)

Many people who train others in a new job use that to feel better about themselves by being "Put-Down Artists."
Yes I think that’s definitely an insecure kind of reaction it makes the workplace a pretty tough place to be.

Thanks for writing, yes I feel like I'm alone in this? When I ask for help I get looks like I'm bothering them. I'm going to take some notes, it is physically demanding too, I'm exhausted and sore 😖

Hey, of all the teachers we've all had, honestly, how many of them do you remember being "good teachers"? It takes a whole lot of mission driven caring and a big heap of good old rare patience to be a good teacher. I'd say, "just aim low to prevent disappointment"... as my husband says, and keep on keeping on for a bit.

So true so many people just don’t have the patience folks need when they’re starting out

Thanks for writing, I have a teenager training me right now, and we All know teenagers know only "Me Myself and I" So she has no patience, I've been trying to figure out what to do. There is so much to learn, so many different scenarios.

Yup

Dig in, sister
Way it is in a lota jobs

If you don't know what to do, do something anyway.
If it's wrong, somebody will come by and train you, or at least tell you what to do.

(Yer actually too freaking old to not know this)

I agree it's not a career it's a job.

Just keep showing up and do the best you can until someone tells you you're fired, that could take years.

Lol your right, at this time in my life I'm Not looking for a career. I was thinking about seeing if they have another position that's better suited for me?

Pat,

Two things I thought of when I read your post:
1. No company seems to ever want to train employees anymore. The company I work for used to have a great training department that employees could utilize to work more productively. That department is now gone. Apparently, new hires are supposed to be experts in their jobs from the second they are hired. Also, there is no knowledge transfer here. When new employees are hired they take over jobs that no one trains them in at all. I guess companies just don't want to spend the money on training.

2. I wish we could transplant you into the little town I live by. Places are closing because they can't find decent workers. The Burger King here closed it's dining room because no one seems to want to work for them. The drive-thru is open, but the dining room is closed. They have Now Hiring posters stuck up all over their building. It's getting concerning. So not everywhere are jobs hard to come by. Some times the workers are hard to come by!!

Good luck with your situation. I think a lot of people are in the same boat as you when it comes to training. I'm afraid it's a sign of the times.
