Russian Troops Apparently Have Radiation Sickness From Disturbing Soil Near Chernobyl

I feel sorry for the Russian soldiers who were exposed to the radiation. I worked with radiation when I was a biologist. One of the colleagues got exposed to a high level of radiation at one of the sites we worked at. The radiation sickness was bad. It hits the epithelial cells/gut first because they're some of the fastest growing cells in the body.

I'm not happy about the individual Russian soldiers suffering from radiation sickness. When they go home, I hope they tell the truth to anyone who will listen about what was done to them by Putin. Only then can there be change in Russia.

Glad for your son you adopted him.

if this is true, then I feel the same about the individual Russian soldier ..they didn't ask for this war, they weren't prepared to be sent to war, I don't wish this on them at all.. ... If they get hurt in another country when invading that's one thing.. but to be hurt and killed by your own country in the course of defending them, that's a completely different thing..

I've wondered about the information that the people in Russia are getting. Is there internet controlled? If it is, there are Russians who have relatives in Europe, Canada, the US and beyond. People have to be getting real information. But people are probably afraid to speak out. I do remember seeing some protests in Russia but not lately.

Yes, I think they are afraid.......I follow different Russian YouTubers, they all talk around the war and what Putin is doing, I did see a few interviews of people on the street where mostly young people spoke against Putin and his war. But I believe they all know the truth whether they speak against it or not.
The Russian soldiers lack of commitment to Putin's war is contributing to their losses.

Have to wonder how much the average Russian knows about radiation let alone operating in a contaminated environment. Or how much they were told about Chernobyl especially since it was a big dent in the old Soviet Union armor.

During the first cold war was always told the Russians had, would use and/or trained in bio warfare which means they should know what to do in a contaminated environment. Wonder if the unit even had protective gear.

The officer in charge should been able to recognize nuclear or radiation markers/signs. Sounds like they are operating out of fear.

Serves them right! They need to go home and stop their macho fantasies about being great soldiers! I say,
"RUSSKI, Идите домой (Russian, Go Home).

From what I've read, younger Russians are using VPNs and are savvy about deleting social media messages containing accurate info about the invasion since they're being randomly searched; using those they are getting better info than our age demographic who trust their 'reliable sources' which are state sponsored bs. The 'reliable sources' concept is dangerous regardless of demographics or nationality.

Another sad consequence of this ridiculous war.

I'm sure that Putin will try to spin it that the Ukrainian military is engaging in some form of chemical warfare.
I heard something about this last night. In the clean up after the nuclear meltdown radioactive waste was buried and new trees were planted over the trenches. Over time their roots have grown down into the waste and radioactive substances have been absorbed and are now part of the wood, leaves and fruit.
When burned as a result of the bombardment the radioactivity was released into the air, to be breathed in by the soldiers who occupied the nuclear plant. Stirring up the soil with heavy vehicles hasn't helped either.

Can you imagine what would happen to the Russian soldiers if they disobeyed Putin's orders to fight? Death to them. Sad situation for all.

Packer, what makes you think the Russian soldiers are any ore "macho" than any other soldiers? The troops are often just treated as expendable warm bodies, to be used and sometimes sacrificed for whatever "great cause" the leaders of that country have cooked up. Probably most of those guys (and women) in uniform are there because they didn't have too many other great job opportunities, or because they were sold a bill of goods.

Why all this stuff about "karma," "serves them right," etc? If you want to hate anyone over this cruel, meaningless war, maybe you should aim your venom at Russia's leaders, and maybe their generals. Although I'm not even sure how much power they have to make military decisions. It's all on Putin, when you come down to it.

P.S. Yesterday's news had a segment about the Russian soldiers blowing up their own tanks, and even shooting down one of their own aircraft from the sky. That must really take guts.
