Are you getting phone calls from a wireless caller from your area with the phone number exactly the same except the last 4 digits each time? For example, 321-666-????. Since the first of July, I have gotten at least 7 or 8 calls that the number claims to be from this area but the last 4 digits are different each time. I could block it but it wouldn't do any good because it is a different number each time. I don't want to block it by area code because then, no one could call me from this area code. I know it has to be scammers because they never leave a message and if it was someone trying to reach me, they would call back from the same number at least. I am just curious where else this is happening.

Area code 321 is from Florida, if you don't know anyone there BLOCK IT!!!
 

When the phone rings we look at the caller ID, if we don't recognize it we don't answer. It then goes to the answering machine and if it is not legitimate they hang up.
This is our form of pest control.

I can't block it because it is MY area code. The 321 was just an example but the numbers that caller id shows are exactly the same as my number except the last 4 numbers.

That what I do too and then if it's a number or area code that can be blocked, I block it.
 
We get calls that turn out to be fun, to mess with if the call isn't a recording but a real person.

Latest was a call from a friend of one of my grandsons. Seems he was attending a bachelor party with that grandson and they were pulled over for a burned out tail light that turned into being arrested for drunken driving. The grandson was in jail and needed to be bailed out so he could get back to where he lives. I asked some questions about the groom, where the party was, what time did the stop occur, were they speeding, did they need a lawyer. I didn't have anything to do. I took easily 10 minutes of the callers time, because in between the questions I said I had to answer the door.


After listening to the whole story, finding out where I had to send the bail money to. My last question was to ask if the caller knew I was not married and had no grand sons. No answer just the click of the phone on the other end.


Another time I was informed I had won a car in a drawing. I asked the caller what his name was and a number I could call back. I explained I thought he was legitimate but wanted to verify the number since the police were conducting an investigation of drug traffickers and my number was being used as bait for callers. Surprise another click on the other end.

I had the same problem and the only solution I could come up with was to have my number changed.

I guess the robot on the other end still keeps dialling the old number.

I have had this kind of stuff happen. However, in addition to the changing number, I get all kinds of other calls. Some try to be intimidating. Some tell me I have an urgent message to respond to. I contacted the police about these calls. They said they can do nothing. There are those out there who just want you to respond enough to get your name or some other information. I do not respond to these calls at all now. If they so much as ask me a question, I say not interested and hang up. Sometimes I just hang up.
 
Been happening to me as well. I screen my calls with caller id, and they never leave a message.

@Knight, excellent! I have heard that wasting their time will get them to quit.
 
I picked up the phone to one of the scammers that had been calling for days. I pretended I couldn't hear them, just kept on saying "hello, hello". They called back again, and I went through the same routine.

A day or so later, the same number called back, and I got the voice on the other end just saying "hello, hello".

They'd obviously worked out that I was just faking it.
 
I get them all the time. First 6 digits the same as mine, the last 4 change all the time. Sometimes they use my cell phone number as well. They seem to have a program that automatically copies the first 6 digits of the number they are calling, then randomly changes the last 4. The first few times, I was taken in, thinking maybe it was a neighbor, then I caught on. I never pick up, and they never leave a message. Clearly a scam.
 
Folks. I know it's fun but do not pick up the phone and get into conversations with scammers.

When you do that, they know they have someone on the other end. They can tell if you are male or female. They can tell if you have an accent. They can tell a lot from you answering. So just use your caller id and if you don't recognize the number then just do not answer.
