Semi- Seniors speak up!

I'm 60 and recently retired. I'm old enough to qualify for (and take advantage of) senior discounts. But I am still in good health mentally (though some would disagree!🤪) And physically. My mother is 91. Her mind is still sharp, but she is physically feeble. She is elderly. We are both "seniors." There has to be a distinction. Since "tweens" has already been claimed by adolescents, I propose the term "semi-seniors" for myself and others of us who are old enough for senior discounts but not "elderly." Who is with me?image000000(7).jpg

I'll speak up. I'm 66 and still work out 5 days a week. When we take vacations they are typically active ones. I feel great. This is me at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. I don't consider myself "elderly" but I love the senior discounts!

My mother lived to 98 y/o. This is my mother at 95 y/o. I'm going to enjoy my good genes as long as I can.

It is uncanny to see that photo.

Your mother is the spitting image of one of my old friends, now sadly passed away.

The pic of you & mom so fantastic @GrandPaul. How lucky you are to still have your mother. How optimistic you've made me that I can reach her age and be sharp but "feeble"---Hey, I'm getting feeble already at 75 but with an active mind which I test daily. I do go into "reveries" but they are enjoyable, though they confuse other people sometimes!

Ran home from a fun meeting the other day just to hear "Stairway to Heaven" be crowned as number one classic rock song of all time..........blasted it on Sirius radio; still felt those same vibes as years ago. 75 I still rock and roll. My neighbors must think this white haired old lady NUTS! So what! :ROFLMAO:

Mom and I are leaving tomorrow for a few days at the beach. She wanted to go. I've even looked into renting her a beach wheelchair with giant tires and a sunbrella. It should be fun!

Welcome to the forum GrandPaul. You are blessed to still have your mother, she looks great! I've never gotten any senior discounts, except once at the hardware store where the 'older' gal at the register asked me if I was over 65. I suspect she was flirting...

I am a tweener as well. At 56, I am on the young side for a seniors

I started to notice a few years ago that I was getting more upset about young people saying rude things about boomers. Even though I am a few years too young to be a boomer. I got upset about the ageist stuff I saw online. I got upset by how rare it is to have a woman my age or older as the hero in fictional stories.

I realized I was starting to think of myself as old.

And this next part is a little hard to put in words, but I don't feel like "old" has to be a bad word. I feel like the time of running around, giving 110%, pushing myself to the limits is winding down. I want quiet days of reading and crafting and sipping tea. I want to just sit on a park bench and do nothing but look at trees and squirrels.

I don't have any problems with people who are active seniors. I am happy they are able to live the life they want. But that isn't me. I am one giant doily away from being a complete old lady stereotype. And I am perfectly okay with it.

Sorry, Grand Paul, your pic looks like you're getting the senior discount, rather than coming from the senior prom. (Nice pic BTW). You're still in the "age is just a number"stage. You think you're too young and vibrant to be a "senior". Everybody goes through that stage, You equate "senior' with being a geezer. Being a senior is a phase of life, like being a child, teen, young adult, etc. It's like the gray in your beard, it's a natural occurrence. Relax and enjoy your retirement- and the senior discounts.
And if you think you got problems, I'm 78 and going through the geezer stage.

This is an adorable post. I especially like this part; “I want to sit on a park bench and do nothing but look at the trees and squirrels.’
