There's a site I visit daily, a diverse group of older folks. But sometimes you just skip it for a few days. On the political forums people turn into absolute babies. Right now there is a thread that started out questioning " Should it be black lives matter or all lives matter?". Well that went downhill mighty quick. Basically now it's between two posters, an example-

As always you have all the answers with no clue of the questions, but then again what do we expect from Texas?

Sure Mr. Smarty Drawers isn't it time for you to make a joke now at my expense, here I'll LOL ahead of time

I'm trying to get you to support your opinions with fact, a concept that might be beyond you

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

( Sigh, this is the way they've been going for two days)

The whole thing is sensitivity. We have some who think a debate is "unpleasant". The administration has said all along if politics bother you, avoid it. Others think simple debate of the daily political events is good for us all. The rules say we cannot call one another names and as passionately as I am willing to go in those discussions, I do not do that. Further, I do not know of anyone else of either party who calls other members names. Now, I recently was treated to a red rep from a member who took my description of a group of people (not members) as people with their heads up a anal cavity. I did not violate the rules, but I bothered someones sensitivity. I actually removed it so as to not bother any other persons sensitivity.

Seniors are no different from anyone else.... they can be just as rude, obnoxious and insensitive. Age doesn't always mean nice, mature or wise. But if one has a masterful command of the English language, one can do a good job of telling it like it is without lowering oneself to name calling. I am working on that, although when seriously provoked, I can channel my inner longshoreman(woman).

Oh you couldn't have got that MORE right Cookie...

As Cookie mentioned, it isn't specific to "older folks" or seniors, regardless of age, many are very passionate about their political (or religious) beliefs, and conversations often go downhill to childish comments or outright insults, once either side disagrees with the other. That's why may people choose not to discuss politics or religion in real life or on forums.

I do appreciate when issues can be discussed calmly, as it's a tool for learning to hear opinions from both sides. I've read many good discussions here, and want to hear why people have their own particular views. I have changed my opinions on some topics, after learning more about the subject from both sides of the discussion.

Don't go there Underock.
If you think people get sensitive about the wording of some posts, that is nothing compared to the reaction that a negative recommendation causes.

I once thought that positive and negative feedback were both tools to indicate approval/disapproval of a post and were of equal portent, but believe me, they are not.
Still, I think that a red rep is probably better than an abusive pm. Apparently these happen from time to time.

I don't understand the point of either red reps or nasty pm. If someone is unbelievably nasty toward you, there are avenues to deal with that without spitting tacks on a thread. It is also possible to post your displeasure within certain parameters. I find the ignore feature to be a godsend from time to time.

Great comeback lines
