Short people got no reason to live? (Joking)

They got little hands
and Little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no short people
Round here

Lyrics from song - Short People by Randy Newman

No wonder I never heard of it.
Not all people have small noses.
Some are blessed with huge noses , that so the giants don't take advantage of their innocence.
(Joking only)

Really have to laugh at that because of something that happened with one of my boys in High School. Both boys were like 5'10" by sophmore year. Both got hassled because they were 'different' in several ways from most of their S Texas classmates and both often used words and humor to shut down the attempts to intimidate them. Difference was Owen's comebacks tended to be slow burn ones and he'd be in a classroom before the harasser realized Owen had insulted him. Seth went for quick easy humor.

One day a short bully with a chip on his shoulder who went every where with an entourage exchanged barbs with Seth and Seth's responses were getting laughs from the entourage. When at a loss for a new insult or comeback the kid says "I'm going to knock your block off." To which my son replies "Wait right here, I'll get you a ladder." The bully seethes because he has no comeback to that either and his backup crew is uselessly doubled over with laughter.

Normally neither of my boys would make cracks about someone's physical looks, characteristics, but this was self-defense.

At 5' 7" on a good day I am shorter than average. My hands, eyes, nose, feet, and teeth are not small, and I rarely talk whilst walking so don't tell many lies, walking anyway. Never tried platform shoes, but have owned a few pair of cowboy boots with heels, does that count? Never bothered me much.

This is a fishing picture from last year with a taller friend. See If you can figure out which one is me, LOL! Clearly shows one advantage to being short, makes the fish look bigger!

Sat next to Shawn Bradley, 7' 6", on a plane once. It was in first class, I had been upgraded, but still the seat was way too small for him. When he stood up my eyes were at his belt buckle level. I was not very envious, he walked around with one hand on his head to protect it from ceilings, doors and the like.

Unfortunate part of his story is that he was injured in a bicycle accident and is now paralyzed, don't think his height had much to do with it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Bradley

I really hate that song.
When that song came out and got much radio play, it wasn't interpreted as a joke but rather an opinion many shared condescendingly.

What younger people in this era won't understand is until the mid 1980s when immigration exploded and it became increasingly politically incorrect to be critical of immigrants, many of which were shorter than average white Caucasians, there was a huge cultural bias against short men that was present at all ages growing up and rampant in workplaces where most men chosen for management roles were also the tallest. That was most true for sales positions. In the military at basic training, the shortest men were instantly assigned as permanent "road guards with flashlights" for marching around while tallest were made group leads. At social events, the last thing girls with any better social status would do is be seen dancing with any shorter boys to the extent short girls were also embarrassed to dance with shorter men. At retail clothing stores the shortest or smallest sizes were invariably the plainest with fewest lengths. Much more books have been written over. Amazingly how quickly that all changed.

At one point I was close to 5'9", now closer to 5'7". You is what you is. They say that tall people do better in life, due to being perceived as being stronger, and smarter, and more likely to be hired to better jobs because of these perceived traits. This is of course absurd, but then we are a pretty absurd species. Tall people are actually likely to live shorter lives, due to the distance their hearts have to pump blood over their lifetimes.

Anyone who followed Randy Newman knew it was parody. I like all of his music, even though I am a bit short, LOL.

One of my favorites was Rednecks, it came out when I was at LSU and one of the lines is "College men from LSU went in dumb came out dumb too". We all loved it, and for some it was true...

A warning this can be offensive to some, but Randy meant it as self deprecating humor. He is actually quite progressive on civil rights, the song was meant to be also. However I can understand some will not appreciate that. As a recovering Redneck myself I get it.

I presume Randy Newman wrote this before the on slut of political correctness that is flooding this country in the last few years. Making fun of anyone is not nice. We have to be nice to everyone; including criminals. PS: I'm glad Randy had a sense of humour. I do wish more people did have a sense of humour!

Maybe, but Randy seems a bit immune to the political correctness thing. You make a good point, I think humor like Randy's actually helps us talk about and reduce prejudice.
That is a word I find offensive, but I know you did not mean it that way.

I have a friend who is helping care for her elderly mother-in-law in failing health. She recently confided in me that one of the reasons she did not like her mother-in-law was that years ago when they were dating the mother-in-law told her now husband not to marry her that she was a slut. I think that was awful, no matter what my friend had or had not done! I am surprised my friend is able to care for the woman even now. Obviously not something she has forgotten.
