Great post!Good manners would have had him offer to let you go ahead. If there were several others behind you that he’d have to do the same for, then he can maybe he can be excused.
Once you chose to stay in the line for a dozen bottles, you can’t complain about the wait. You could have gone on with your day or even donated them to someone else behind you.
i agree with hollydolly--he might of let the other lady go first that was in front of him--and if their were other ladies behind you they may have expected the same--and that poor man would of been standing there till bed time
I though he would offer to let me go ahead of him, but he didn't. He took about 20 minutes while I had to stand there or lose my place in line.
well if he let the lady before him go ahead and then you and then what happens if another lady comes? he can't stay there all day letting everyone go ahead of him. then he'd never get out of there. he had things to do too. you have to consider that.A gentleman would have, but maybe he wasn't one. When he came out I said, "You could start a ticker tape parade with all those bottle receipts." He just brushed on by.
Huge factI learned that many people are not aware of what goes on around them
I always ask. Worst is they can say no.I had 12 empty soda bottles to take back to the recycling center at the grocery. They only allow one person at a time in the cubicle. When I got there the was an older woman already there and a man after her, then me. The man had like 10 huge bags full for bottles to return, so it was going to take him a while to feed the glass, plastic and metal containers through the various receptacles. He did see me and could see I only has a few. I though he would offer to let me go ahead of him, but he didn't. He took about 20 minutes while I had to stand there or lose my place in line. If the situation was reversed, I would have let him go ahead.
Huge fact
And, y'know, this thread is a prime example
The selfless are the most in tune with their fellow beings
The self centered? Not a clue
But, the self centered are so in tune with......themselves
It's incredible
It's like, when stepping over the poor and needy, lying on the sidewalk, they'd complain they'd dirtied their shoes
No, I don't feel sorry for the debs of the world
I feel sorry for those around them
So you stood in line for 20 minutes to collect 60¢? Good grief, Charlie Brown!Yes, they give 5¢ for every recycled container.
I no longer look at these issues through gender eyes. If I'm closest to the door, I open it for whoever is nearby. Woman, man, child, it matters not. I'm equally courteous to all. Same with offering to let someone go ahead of me in line.Normally I would say yes a gentleman should let a lady go ahead...
Same here Star. I've even helped a man put on his coat while saying I'd be a "gentlelady". He said no woman had ever done that for him before. LOL He had a stroke a couple of years ago and still was having trouble with one of his arms.I no longer look at these issues through gender eyes. If I'm closest to the door, I open it for whoever is nearby. Woman, man, child, it matters not. I'm equally courteous to all. Same with offering to let someone go ahead of me in line.
So what's your price?I think that when you're in a line, you are waiting your turn just like the rest of the people in line. If one chooses to let another go ahead that's very courteous, but certainly not to be expected or required.
BTW, ain't no way I'd stand in a line for 60 cents.
If it was obvious that it was going to be a long wait, I'd either put the bottles back in my car or offer them to someone else in line.So what's your price? If you are recycling you have to do it somehow or just dump it in the trash.
Our city doesn't have curbside recycling. You have to take the bottles to an outlet that sells beer.
We get 10 cents back on each beer can or wine bottle. Whiskey bottles can't be recycled.
And here's what is strange. If I buy beer in the U.S. and bring it back to Canada they won't take the U.S. cans. Well they will but you won't get the deposit back.
When I asked the clerk how they can tell they are U.S. cans, he tells me that there is a government warnings on the U.S. cans. I never noticed that before.
So in Canada, drink beer at your own risk.![]()
I feel exactly the same way, and gender doesn't matter either. I have let people get ahead of me on line over the years if I had a lot of stuff and they only had a few items. Others have done the same for me, sometimes insisting even after I thank them and decline.I think that when you're in a line, you are waiting your turn just like the rest of the people in line. If one chooses to let another go ahead that's very courteous, but certainly not to be expected or required.

I don't think like that.If it was obvious that it was going to be a long wait, I'd either put the bottles back in my car or offer them to someone else in line.
