I may have had a puff or two a a teen, but never developed the habit. Just couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Now traditional tobacco smoke gives me asthma. My mom never smoked (that I knew of). Dad smoked a pipe and even a cigar on occasion. After dad passed my mom said she missed the smell of his pipe tobacco and would sometimes put some of his pipe tobacco in an ashtray and light it just to have the aroma. He made his own blend - half Amphora and half Captain Black. Then at Christmas, I'd get him a box of his favorite cigars (White Owls). He passed away at age 61 from renal cancer. who knows if smoking contributed to it.

Smoked from age 19 until I was 32 I came close to dying and that drove me to quit. Quitting smoking is tough and it took a near death experience to get me to do it.

I smoked from age 20 - 30. It was the dumbest thing I ever did. Peer pressure, trying to fit in with friends, etc.
Quitting was the most difficult thing I've ever done. It took 3 tries & success required ALL the stubbornness & determination I have, & I have a lot of both.

I smoked for well over 20+ years. I really can't remember when I started. I entered the Navy in 68 and didn't smoke, when I came out four years later, I was smoking. I quit once, but started up for awhile. Then I quit for good 20 * years ago. For some weird reason, when I decide to quit, I can-no problem. Most of the time I was smoking, I didn't want to quit. I enjoyed it.

I smoked from age 14 to 41, giving up for health reasons, it was extremely hard to do, but, after trying for a year I just stopped and never lit another cigarette

I smoked from the time I was a tweenager up until January 2, 2006.

It was tough to quit but I was ready and Chantix helped during the first month.

For the first year after I quit, I always made sure that I had an unopened pack of cigarettes nearby just in case I needed them.

smoked when I lived in Canada for few years 'then gave up 'it never bothered me much -never missed it '

Quit smoking cigarettes after 22 years up to 2 packs a day. That was the year I cut enough fire wood for 2 households for 2 years. Now I don't allow anyone to smoke in my house. I still like the smell and get the urge for a good pipe smoke even after 25 years.

smoked from 13/14 till I was 64,artery closed up in my leg, could hardly walk,,there was talk of taking me leg off if I didn't quit,so stopped there and then, had stents put in me leg, sorted

My dad had no problem quiting when doctors told him to. The next day he just stopped. Now Mama struggled with quiting for several months. She said it was the hardest thing she ever did.

Smoked at one time but quit successfully...several times šŸ˜‚

Smoked from mid teens to when I started having kids. Picked it back up in 1999 when my life was a train wreck, tried to quit and did 3 separate times between 2004-2008, finally quit for good in April 2008

I was not one of those for whom quitting was no big deal. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

I have read several posts stating that they had a very difficult time quitting. The reason is because nicotine is a super addictive drug, probably more addicting than Heroin. Nicotine releases dopamine, which gives the smoker an enjoyable feeling.

I smoked while in Vietnam. I was offered a cigarette, accepted it and enjoyed it. When I got home, I smoked for maybe 2 years and quit. I have known 2 acquaintances that got lung cancer; 1 of which survived.

I think that I saw a sign in a convenience store just yesterday that read ā€œMarlboro—-$7.90 pack.ā€
