Took a while, but, I was finally able to find the actual number of deaths in the US for the last 10 years from starvation. (not to be confused with malnutrition).

An excellent point. In fact, most of the members of the Donner Party died of malnutrition and not starvation.

The problem in a nutshell: Congress gets paid during a government shutdown.

If lawmakers who can't even agree on anything were subject to the same financial consequences of not getting paid, this wouldn't happen

Having made the above statement, which I don't disagree with, you should dig a little deeper and separate those congressional folks who ARE in favor of the cuts and those that are not.
