So frustrated at the few self-entitled folks here...

:unsure:Apologies if this is crossing the line into Politics:unsure: …..I’ll get it deleted if i offends ….
I don’t find your heartfelt post offensive but it is interesting that if someone made a similar post about our current POTUS or one of his predecessors it would be considered political, inflammatory, partisan, divisive, etc…

We’re definitely an odd bunch. 😉🤭😂

I believe it is the Temora Aircraft Museum.
I believe that’s about 2 hours drive from Canbera @seadoug ….you may have seen the old airforce base at Wagga Wagga …..that’s about 80+ km from …Temora …as well……

that has many war time planes on display as well . we traveled through all those town coming here to Canbera

Temora Aviation Museum - Wikipedia

It sounds like you have a good look around while in Aussie Land Doug ….don't forget to visit South Aust if you ever venture down under again …

Would it? Her post wasn't about his politics but about his personal story

Further to it, I also saw a very interesting interview where he described searching for and meeting his father and his half siblings as a grown adult and by then a father himself.
His mother had met his father overseas and then returned to Australia pregnant.
The father was betrothed in an arranged marriage and he returned to Italy where he married and had his own family.
It was a very unique and interesting story - regardless of your political views.

Would that have been the huge war memorial @seadoug .?

This Is our 6 th trip to the bush city ( Canbera ) Doug ….my hubs uncle who he was named after , died in the war , and had a plaque in the museum
Two of my uncles died overseas in WW II. One is buried in Nigeria, the other in Singapore. Both names appear on the Wall of Remembrance. Even though both died the year before my birth, I always place a poppy next to each name whenever I visit Canberra.

That's right....forgot about them! :D
True, but those moderators are of specific threads. I doubt they have the power to ban anyone. As far as I know, there are currently no forum moderators besides Matrix because he's stated that numerous times.

He has had site-wide moderators in the past, including the well-liked and even-tempered @SeaBreeze, who eventually stepped down from the position. There was also a not-so-wonderful moderator for a while, who shall remain nameless.

If you've read thorough the thread you'll see that the majority of people are bothered or at least appreciate an Internet space without politics. That's the reason the rule was implemented in the first place.

The whole point of this thread is that politics do escalate and threads are locked or deleted.

My point wasn't about the politics rule, exactly. I support the rule. I've also been accused of breaching it. Why would I breach it if I support the rule? Because of that fine line. For example - you can't fully discuss the Middle East without considering the politics of it. The politics are financing the war. The politics are dictating the narrative. etc. So - if you allow the war to be discussed, you're essentially inviting that grey area to enter the fray.

My real point was - some people are quick to use the REPORT button about something, but are apparently afraid or unwilling to PM the author and discuss it. Given we're all grown adults here, I find that strange. For the record, I have never used the REPORT button.

I PMd a member once, and will never do it again here.
I got ripped a new one about violating their privacy, and how DARE I, etc.
They went immediately on ignore....

Matrix has asked, time and again that we use the REPORT button instead of arguing back and forth.

....

Emphasis mine

Rose and several others in the thread have pointed out Matrix's request to report political posts. He's made a no politics rule, he's requested political posts be reported. It's his board.

PMs can get out of hand quickly. Have seen it as a mod on another board. That's why they also have a report button.

The grown adult thing to do is abide by forum rules which avoids the need for reporting.

I rarely PM - perhaps once or twice a month, though sometimes I get into an ongoing conversation.

Not everyone is comfortable disclosing certain personal issues on a forum open to the entire web, but after nearly eight years on SF I've developed some trusted friendships.

I see nothing wrong with PMs.

Basically I agree with the reporting, when things get really out of hand. Matrix doesn’t have time to read all the threads.

Sometimes the reporting can be used as a weapon when one member doesn’t like another. Matrix accepts the complaints at face value and the post is removed or the member sanctioned.

A few years ago a member was reported a couple of times over sometimes that seemed innocuous to me. He left because of that.

It’s a fine line.

I agree that it’s better to report a thread than it is to engage with a member or resort to some sort of vigilante self help, scolding, shaming, threats, etc…

I have reported a few threads and there have been times when Matrix took action but I also remember one situation where he politely told me to mind my own business. 😉🤭😂

I have PMs turned off, If my thoughts and comments aren’t appropriate for the general membership it’s probably best to keep them to myself.

This thread frustates and angers me. NO, I don't think we should discuss politics, but occasionally, a person might say something which is construed as political and a BIG DEAL is made. Overkill. Punishment. People make mistakes, and shouldn't be whipped like a mad dog because they do.

I hope I didn't post anything like this.

If I ever do, someone please tell me so, nicely I hope.
And I will correct it and be more careful. I never try to irritate people online, unless they have came at me in cruelty (in the past). I try to avoid this now to spare my anxiety issues.
I have no intention to do that here.

Well, that was unfortunate. I guess you learned what you needed to know about that person, right?

But don't let one bad experience ruin the party (as it were).

People will have disagreements. We all ought to mature enough to recognize that, and know that as an online community, being civil costs nothing.

Emphasis mine

Yes it is. And once he's made a decision, then it is what it is. We should accept that.

However, I take your interpretation are being too literal. Does Matrix really mind if there's a political comment, or does he care more about the overall effect such a post might engender? I think he's trying to keep things civil by banning hot spots. But that starts with each of us, and what we post.

I have also attempted to illustrate that it's not always black and white. Sometimes it's not the intention to go over the line, buts it's interpreted as being so by whomever hits the report button. Could you be wrong? No way to tell without asking the person, right?

I don't like the report button either and I won't use it except in some sort of emergency or safety measure. But I'd rather be reported than PM'd. I'm here for discussion, not private talk.
