So many Great Comedians back then, who was your favorite?

I thought Redd Fox and Flip Wilson were hilarious in the old days.

Phyllis Diller and Moms Mabley were also great.
I couldn't agree more about Diller and Mabley. They were both a riot, although "Moms" Mabley was a little too risque for TV then. Diller was a big favorite of mine. I first saw her on the old Jack Paar "Tonight Show", then when she appeared on Ed Sullivan.

Even from an early age lstening and watching him 'on the telly', I felt the man was a keen observer of life,- and made my laugh.
His comments had a realism and truth - although viewed with a somewhat skewed and cynical way.

Cleverly depiting tales from a mainly religous theme to provide a humourous side to a deeply personal subject.
Whilst he pushed back boundaries (along with a few choice wordings) he expressed in both a cynical though respective manner.

One of my favourite sketches: -

As an aside:
"Once upon a time ago", My Panents worked in the entertainment business - working on the 'Butlins' holiday camps/ Hotels, and where they met/knew him during his early days. They told me he was a gentle though asute young man with a lover of life (akin to 'naughty but nice') and generous pesonality
  • At the end of his act, Allen always signed off with the words "Goodnight, thank you, and may your God go with you." - Perhaps, the most Wisest of Words (?).

I always got a lot of laughs from Phyllis Diller. She referred to her husband/partner as Fang.
Also liked Carol Burnett and the whole crew on her TV show. :)

Raven, i transcribe historical documents for the Smithsonian and i worked on a campaign where we transcribed all her jokes which were handwritten on index cards. Hundreds of them. Some of her humor back then wouldn't float in this day and age but most of them were pretty funny at the time.
