Some Forums an Sites are Really Mean

I haven’t turned it into anything. You said you got attacked for your political views. You also said you never wrote any political views.

I don’t follow politics at all so I’m never in any of those aggressive discussions. Sorry you are feeling picked on. I wasn’t there so don’t know what happened nor am I trying to make it my business.

I’m not sure what type of response you were expecting.
Again, I did not voice any political views. One person attacked me for whatever she presumed I thought. That's all. All I did was comment about what happened to me. I wasn't expecting any particular response; I just posted my comment. That's all.

Devi! I’m not attacking you. I’m mirroring exactly what you posted back to you. I definitely never claimed you said anything political . You said you were attacked for your political views. If you weren’t stating any political views, how could you be attacked?

Anyway, this isn’t going anywhere.
Maybe volunteer to become a moderator so you can deal with the members who are annoying you.

I have been on 9 other forums, still on 2 of them; the rest shut down a few years ago. I moderated on the biggest one (39,000 members) for several years. Only one had more rudeness and bullying than this one. It was almost all women who quilt.
NINE other forums? I think you’d be a great moderator. 🤔

Hey! Maybe you’ll volunteer to be a moderator.🫣🤣

@PeppermintPatty, the one person who attacked me was not you (I never said it was; sorry if you took what I said that way), and it was only one time. I have no idea how that person assumed what she thought my political views were.

I don't need to leave over it and don't want to ask Matrix to do anything about it, nor do I need to become a moderator to deal with it. Geez.

All this discussion is because I mentioned that one person had attacked me one time. I guess I'm not supposed to mention that.

Anyway, hopefully, we're done with this discussion.

IMO, ”YOU” statements are usually very dangerous especially online since most of us don’t know much at all about each other.

We are miscommunication big time.
You were just venting. I get it.
I added the moderator comment more as comic relief. 😅 lol

I’m jumping out of this thread now.
Truce Devi ✌️

It seems counterproductive though. If a site becomes too toxic, surely members would leave and then the site owner wouldn't have much of a forum left?

I guess I have a more grown-up way of looking at it. Either have fun with it, or move on. Its the internet and you don't HAVE to do anything about it. They aren't in your home or in your face.
I don't know if it's "more grown-up" but there is something to be said on the idea of enjoying a site, moving on, or if problems seem to follow you, taking up a different hobby or way to spend your time. You (or in my case, me) may be the problem and negative posts and thoughts may gravitate towards your (or my) posts.

In that "perfect world" that we always talk about, it would always be peace and tranquility but unfortunately it's not to be. I'm nearing the " the end of the trail" and can't see spending it in daily arguments and disagreements with folks that have little , if anything that effects my daily life.

Now if my wife disagrees with me, I have to pull the covers up over my head and hope that she'll stop berating me and go back to whatever she was doing.😟

In reading all these comments, it blows my mind to learn that there are so many forums out there? I've only been on 3.
Last week when I made the decision to do a search for social forums for seniors I came across about 20 of them in a few minutes. One of the first ones I checked out was this forum. Much to my surprise, I discovered that I was already a member! Was it destiny perhaps?

No one is perfect and liable to do anything different than usual when having a real bad time of it. That goes for those with some mental health concerns and also those who think they are better than them.

There sure is some stigma about mental health going around everywhere.

I like to code, write my own apps and websites, but just for fun. I've never had any formal training. One forum I ask questions on when I get stuck is like that. Lots of people (kids I think) with a good bit of knowledge and no people skills. I think with technology people it may just be par for course.
imho the pandemic, isolation, etc seemed to foster it.....did with me.....
