And I wrote the following.. seems simple , but it has rather profound implications :

Thank-you for catching the quite obvious spelling error !

If I were younger I would have been mortified,,

one of the few perks of getting older, is that unimportant things seem unimportant

Spelling is pretty important! We all make unintentional typos from time to time, but I must admit I do get irritated by people whose spelling is consistently poor, don't they have spell checkers.

I don't think I would have been mortified at any age. Spelling errors happen to the best of us, I know I've had my share.

Elizabeth, must say I loved your comeback reply.

I got corrected once on a forum for spelling color the US way instead of colour which is the Canadian way....oh well.....there's the spelling cops and their kin the grammar cops on all forums.

"Thank you" does not utilize a hyphen.

If I were younger I would have been mortified,,

Double comma usage at the end of the line.

Comma usage after "older" not required.

JUST KIDDING!!! :p

Who, where? Details please.

Was it moi? I sometimes can't resist tidying up a quote that I have used.

I edit my own posts all the time because it is so easy to miss typos before posting and I can't stand looking at them later.
I like my posts to look good, including the quotes I include.

My obsession, not a reflection on anyone else. Apologies if I have been the guilty party.

I used to be an excellent speller and now I can't spell anything more than "cow" sometimes. I do not have a spell checker. Mine seem to have disappeared and I don't know why or how to install another one. Also my keyboard sticks.

My fingers don't work all that well when I try to type quickly and although I think I've hit a key, it doesn't always appear on the screen. Then the spell function second guesses what I wanted to type and some quite ridiculous words appear in my sentences. Naturally it doesn't then highlight the word as a spelling error and I sometimes miss seeing that it is not what I wanted.

It sometimes takes several edits to get everything right. It may even be days later that I notice the errors.

Just plain me, if I am bamboozled about some spelling, I paste what I think it should be into google web and it always gives me the correct version by asking me "did you mean ..."

Today I had to do this to sort out wahhabism, not a word I need to spell every day.
I was spelling it wahabiism which is how I usually pronounce it.

My post had nothing to do with spelling !!!

It has to do with the wonderful observation that:

My spell checker is on all the time and on every post it underlines it ,it annoys me sometimes cause i can be in a hurry but have to go back two or three times.

sumthyme soown i wil leve it and hav a gigel.Hahahaha

You sound a bit like me. I've often said to my husband that when he dies, I am going to have to through out all the gadgets because I'm not 'computer-remote-coffee maker' friendly! I'm always looking for him to 'fix my computer'.

We cant pick each other up over spelling usage, grey/gray color/colour etc as we do things differently on our side of the pond. The OP is saying though, that it's not about spelling really, but what becomes unimportant as we age. I think.

I have never pronounced wahabiism in my life, never mind not spelling it correctly.;)

Oh nothing to do with spelling! :crying: I agree, unimportant things shouldn't seem important...makes sense. But not everyone takes advantage of those perks. :p

What did we do before spell check? Consult the dictionary? How quaint! :D

Because my work now involves writing I'm usually quite obsessive - compulsive about my spelling, but here on the forum I allow myself a bit of leeway.

Thanx!

There was a time I possessed great skills when it came to the English language, unfortunately, that time has long since past due to a number of neurological issues, that impede my cognitive capabilities sometimes, I also have great difficulty, not always, but occasionally with math, I have completely forgotten most multiplication tables. I once sat in tears because I couldn't remember what the answer to 7x8 was. I still can't tell you if you ask me off the top of my head, some things just won't compute and simplest of words are sometimes the most difficult for me to spell. I had a time spelling money once. Imagine forgetting how to spell money. I know the difference between, their, there, they're, but I still muck it up every chance I get same with your and you're. More often than not, I post before I have a chance to correct my grammatical errors even though, I may have seen them prior to posting, why because if I don't finish a thought, I will lose it and then often I go back and if you think it didn't make sense the first time around, well, just keep reading this drool. I've already decided to leave bad enough alone. It's been a long day and I'm going to have to take and old people nap. this was typed after what follows so, seriously it may not make sense. :eek:fftobed:

I get it, there are times even though, I am aware how horrendous, own errors are these days, when I spot other's mistakes, I still cringe, but then, I remember as long as the meaning is there, that's all that matters most on a forum of this kind. If there's an error to the point of completely being befuddled, then and clarification is needed, it is easy enough to ask. But life's too short, so I will have to pass on anyone that needs to validate their own existence by spell checking my mistakes for the sake of pin pricking me. :bighug:

An not I don't have early onset alzheimer's I just been riding the short bus since 2003 :turnaround:

April I think you did a beautiful job expressing your thoughts. And it is okay with me if you miss a letter or two, or reverse meanings. After all the way I spell I wouldn't notice anyway. At least you know your riding the short bus. Alot of us probably are just don't have medical proof. At least that is true of me!
