Something to Ponder...

I don't understand resentment against celebrities.

There is certainly a kernel of truth to this. We do assign more respect to celebrities than we should. Just because someone is a great actor/singer/athlete etc. does not make them a good role model or wise person. That is where we often go wrong.

I think it does add to our enjoyment of life to have recognizable entertainers or athletes. We just have to be careful not to assign them disproportionate importance... Hard to do sometimes.
What gives me consternation are celebrities who are talented and threw away their lives and talent because of drugs and then they are glorified for their talent. I do it too. I listen to heavy metal and grunge etc. and at least one member of some of the bands I like is dead because of drugs. What a waste. It is a bummer to see these young people with their lives ahead and so talented die. My current favorite Nickelback have avoided this fate so far. Maybe they have seen to much of it. I doesn't mean they were bad people though, they were just people like everybody else with problems.😢

Yes, but think of all the "valuable" medical advice they give. Aren't we lucky to get such important advice from celebrities who are so qualified & knowledgeable? Ya know, I wasn't gonna get vaccinated, but when Dolly Parton suggested it...........WHOA!! :ROFLMAO:
There are two BIG reasons to listen to her!

I’ve heard it said that America lacks but on some level deeply craves royalty, so we have elevated professional athletes and entertainers to those positions. Their extravagant lifestyle eventually runs the money train dry and aging ruins their marketability, so we see them then featured in promos for medicare or products like easy-access tubs…

I think we all can appreciate natural talent in individuals, and their ability to entertain, But like my dad used to say "everyone puts their pants on the same way, one leg at a time". The value placed on things, and the rate of wealth accumulation of the very few, at the expense of so many, in general does seem pretty twisted. Maybe time to start going in another direction? Mike
With all the websites that showcase amateur music, and Youtube and other social media sites things are changing and rapidly. Amateur music can be just what your looking for. A lot of music is better or as good as any industry music. For the past couple of years , being stuck inside our homes, more and more people are becoming very interested in "unknown" artists. The industry changed from the love of providing good music to a profit making monster.

If you want to think about the Real Wealth, think not of celebrities but who pays them. They don't usually seek the spotlight for good reason--they own it.

Who are you more interested in?
A) Tom Cruise and Tom Brady get arrested with 3 strippers, 2 male prostitutes, and a mule.
OR
B) Jethro Fluggenhammer and Flyod Tzvankiak get arrested with 3 strippers, 2 male prostitutes, and a mule

Nuff said.
Neither, I really couldn't care about those strippers and make prostitutes. However, I'm interested in the price of groceries going up, bank interest rates going up, singing with my guitar and how cold the weather is outside. If you live in the warm part of the US or down in Australia you may not know the fact that when one Canadian meets another, 9/10 people will first talk about the weather before they ever talk about anything else. Trust me, I have lived here all my life. By the way, it's -32 C outside my window right now at 11:50 am. For the American friends that's minus -24.6 F. No matter what scale you use it's pretty cold.

It's not that they make "too much" money @JaniceM it is that we make too little. It's not that they have too much influence, it's that we have too little.

I remember when Elizabeth Taylor was the first to make a million dollars a picture; I think it was Cleopatra. They have strong unions and bargaining power and most of us have turned up our noses at workers taking more for themselves.

We could do more, we just don't.

The accolades celebs are given is our problem
It is freely offered, they can't buy it. it only comes from an adoring public.
So, who is responsible for this nonsense?šŸ¤”

Those overpaid celebrities should be taxed at a high rate and those tax revenues could pay for subsidized housing and education to help the poor. After all, a lot of poor people contribute to the salaries of these celebrity athletes, hip-hop singers, and others. Why shouldn't some of their rewards go back to those who helped make it possible?
